According to the Foreign Ministry in #Reykjavik, the decision made in June to suspend embassy operations in Moscow "does not constitute a rupture in #diplomatic relations". "As soon as conditions permit, Iceland will prioritize resuming operations," the ministry added.

So it started to #erupt here in #Iceland last Monday and it's still going strong. I quite like that I can see the whole thing live on #TV and it's quite active now, see video.

The eruption is about 25 km from #Reykjavík and we sometimes see the smoke from it. Even if it's quite close by it's also hard to get to. At this moment it is almost 20 km walk to get there (back and forth) from the parking place and it's a hard walk, no walk in the park.

"'At the moment, it's a very small eruption,' said Matthew Roberts of the service and research division at the IMO. He added there was no direct imminent hazard to people living within the region."

A volcanic #eruption is imminent at #Keilir or #Fagradalsfjall on the #ReykjanesPeninsula , threatening the road between #Reykjavik and #KEF / #KeflavikAirport . Reykjavik’s been feeling literally thousands of quakes pretty much nonstop for days, according to an Icelandic YouTuber.

I wonder how Icelanders are doing? Calm? Nervous? Annoyed?

My #MidweekMuseum recommendation today comes from #Iceland, and #Reykjavik in particular, and it's the Icelandic #Punk #Museum. We missed going here the first two times we hit the capital but finally made it last year. Inside a former public toilet accessed down steps in the street it's a hot, cramped, dirty, noisy, thoroughly entertaining experience, curated by a proper character of the punk scene. Posters, history, listen to tracks, wear the jackets. Great.

Random #TravelPhotography for this #TravelTuesday (which possibly isn't a thing). This is the town of #Hafnarfjörður, a few kilometres south of #Reykjavík, #Iceland. We stayed at a hotel here the first time we visited our favourite European country back in 2015. Just trying to get here by bus from the airport was fun as it turns out how we pronounce Hafnarfjörður and how Icelandic people pronounce it are two very, very different things.
