His music did however feature many references to the middle ages and old German tales, which (combined with the fact that his descendant were devoted nazis) lead to Hitler being invested in the Bayreuth Festivals and visiting them quite often.
I don’t know if the music itself is that problematic, though and I think the Festival now tries to be apolitical.
