@niphette @andrew Also enjoyed #RingsOfPower and rewatched it recently (something I do rarely with TV shows). I try to watch any show that Bear McCreary did the soundtrack on, since I saw Ronald E Moore's Battlestar Galactica. Also try to watch Moore's creations. A lot of love poured into Rings of Power, and money, and some firm guidance by the Tolkien estate... these show. While I did not care at all for Jackson's Hobbit films, RoP is up there with his mostly excellent LoTR effort.

Est-ce que #RingsofPower était une catastrophe ? Non. Est-ce que c'est une immense déception : Oui.
C'est très beau, ça a le mérite d'étendre l'univers SdA, et la BO est exceptionnelle.

MAIS la moitié des épisodes sonnent creux, c'est mal écrit et c'est blindé de persos nuls (heureusement qu'il y a Galadriel). On peut noter cependant une certaine forme de fidélité vis-à-vis de l'œuvre de Tolkien puisque les moments avec les Hobbits sont aussi chiants que dans les bouquins, et ça, c'est beau.

@ibboard that totally makes sense, although I'm more used to the that argument with patents and not copyrights. it's another good side effect of #ao3 , the author will know to avoid.

I've not watched #RingsOfPower but from all accounts from those who have it's really a high productive values fanfic itself, given what they had the rights to and how they came up with their own fill-in-the-blanks. Perhaps this can win against Amazon, but I don't think it will win against Tolkien.

I am not, generally, a #fanfic person, but I appreciate its existence and am happy #ao3 is there to support it.

I've never heard of a fanfic author trying to actually publish their work for profit, or claim their work was original and suing the copyright holder...

...let alone the Tolkien estate.
