I love lifepathy things. Started on Central Casting, then later enjoyed simpler takes from some of the R. Talsorian RPGs.
Everything I did in #RisusRPG was kind of half-joking, half-deadly-steeleyed-serious, and 20 years ago the Risus Companion included _my_ take on lifepaths, but specifically "Lifepaths for Gamers Who Already Have a Clear Character Concept and Wants Lifepaths to Just Be One Table." That wasn't the title. π Then #UresiaRPG got one too. Gonna make more. π

This old thing still makes me smile. π Honestly I think every RPG should take a moment and picture itself as a 1930s seltzer product.

On the old #RisusRPG birdsite account I'd post frequent "Adventure Goals to Try," which were something more than a hook but much less than a seed ... germs? Anyway, pick 3-10 of them and they'd equal a seed.
It was stuff like "divert a river" or "help a soldier relive his most glorious day" or "get an audience with a famous person" or "deal with a stowaway," stuff like that. I really enjoyed writing those and queuing them up. I was sad that the account didn't continue the tradition.
Honestly I'm still kicking myself for not going with something a little more book-weighty in The Risus Companion's body type. Seriously it still bothers me.
Super proud of that book. Twenty years old this year, still a good book, still worth knowing, still worth revisiting. Body type is too light and I realized this like, 4 minutes after publishing it.
Like a typo in a toot, but, MUCH moreso.
Another #TTRPG memory: my player group for "A Kringle in Time" back in Fort Collins. Another case where virtually the entire group has since left Colorado (myself included). Shane, who looks the grumpiest to be there, still GMs Kringle for new gamers regularly. Me too! #RisusRPG #Christmas
Of course, this might raise the question: What's the minimum page- or wordcount for a high-concept RPG, Mister Smarty Pants?
And on that point I'd just have to confess being wrong before I even reply, because for years I would have said "probably around 10,000 words, so a tidy 16pp if the layout isn't too padded."
But that was before Brent Wolke consistently did it in less π
In a #RisusRPG #StarTrek away mission taking place in our #cozy #UnderHillByWater neighborhood of the Shire, the crew of clever Raccoons struggled to maintain the rules of First Contact while also stopping some meddlesome Klingon Teens on Spring Break.
There was Bloodwine chugging! Bat'Leth fights! Firework battles! Mithril cookie sheets! All this while the Hobbits remained blissfully unaware anything was wrong. Easily the nerdiest thing I've ever homebrewed. Total bliss to run.

My #RisusRPG + #StarTrek take on a stranded group of ensign raccoons observing #cozy #underhillbywater Hobbits is coming along well.
I built a Jamboard and worked on linking events and fallouts today, #MonsteroftheWeek style. I've got some twists to our established canon, and challenges for my players to work out. Our first time playing Risus too. It looks fun.
Our rotating GM "no death, only cozy" challenge continues this weekend, and I can't wait. #lotr

I'm reminded of the Risus RPG
They have a "Inappropriate Cliche" rule. If you use a weird Cliche(Skill) in combat and can justify it narratively, you can do extra damage.

This has been in my camping kit forever, just in case I want to run something for wife and cousins at Beverly beach. Never got a chance to use it, but itβs always there.

You know, given the nature of the new iteration of Encounter Critical and the new iteration of Uresia: Grave of Heaven, I really want to just see the new edition of the Risus Companion soon to get it over with π #TTRPG #RisusRPG #ECRPG #UresiaRPG

We're just a day away from 2023 here, which means it's nearly a year in which (at least a tiny handful of) gamers will have 30 years of Risus: The Anything RPG to celebrate! And I'm not sure if/what I should do about that π
So I blogged about not knowing: https://rolltop-indigo.blogspot.com/2022/12/on-eve-of-30th-though-its-already-31st.html #RisusRPG #TTRPG
@AetherEgo I started#RPG with the originalWhite Box back in the 70s, but #SoloRpg didnβt seem to exist as a separate thing until recently. I tried #Mythic and some success, experimented with #RisusRPG and others that really need multiplayer interaction.
#KenWickham, #PartsPerMillion, and later Mythic helped a lot and taught me I could play almost any ruleset solo.
True joy for me came with #PbtA and the 'move' mechanic. The most recent boon is #Zoser and that approach.

One tiny part of a now-abandoned graphic project for #RisusRPG -- the idea had been that the next edition of the Risus Companion and other works would be collected into an all-new omnibus for those who like POD, and the cover of that omnibus would be an explosion of graphics evoking a couple dozen old album covers (in this case Foreigner's Agent Provocateur.
For the #RisusRPG adventure, Toast of the Town (available free from Big Dice Games) I developed a particular "doodle style" to be compatible with the game's stick-figure illustrations. I can't imagine I'll ever need that style again, but I enjoyed working in it. #FantasyMaps #Cartography #TTRPG

Back when I lived in Austin, Jeff Dee and I sat over a long lunch (multiple hours, all recorded on audio for a never-published Encounter Critical project) and for one part of it we just shared a bit of wonderment talking about how both #RisusRPG and #TWERPS fans called the games "zen," which we both found kind of hilarious.π
