A morning on the east side of the River Exe, starting in the Maer Valley just outside #Exmouth where there is a small colony of Ring-necked Duck. Then onto Bowling Green Marsh for the high tide. The latter was quiet - both in terms of waders (hardly any) and peace and quiet (lots).

A pair of black swans at Exeter quay, mingling with a group of mute swans.
The river Exe very high after all the rain in the last week or so. The flood relief channel doing its thing though - itβs very full. You can normally walk across it, underneath the footbridge.
Bowling Green Marsh reserve (#Topsham) is on the river Clyst as it joins the river Exe and this morning there were plenty of Black-tailed Godwit, #Avocet, Redshank, Pintail, Wigeon, Teal, Shoveler, Lapwing. There was one Spotted Redshank which took some finding! Along the lane, my first Mistle Thrush of the year.

An 'interesting' day. Helped someone who had driven along the wrong carriageway on the A38 (a dual carriageway main road linking Exeter and Plymouth), made sure she was safe until the Police arrived (then had to give a statement).
Then it was very windy on the Exe estuary so ended my birding early and came home for a cup of tea in the warm.
Avocet on the Exe. Beautiful, elegant, graceful birds.

I walk around Exminster Marshes to blow away the cobwebs. Plenty of birdlife and lovely to get out and about.

In the morning, the weather had been pretty lousy with heavy intermittent showers. However, it had started to clear from about midday and so as we reached the #RiverExe and then the #ExeterCanal the weak #Winter #Sun had made an appearance. No breeze to speak of either, which made for quite a speedy #cycle ride.

Also seen were this Kestrel and a Herring Gull with its crab prey.

I roamed around the east side of the River Exe this morning before ending up at Bowling Green Marsh. Highlights were Brent Goose, Marsh Harrier, 6 Snipe and a Firecrest. Beautiful blue sky. #Devon #RiverExe #UKBirding #wildlife #Oystercatcher #BrentGoose #Snipe #Birding

Part of the journey is past the #RiverExe and you can see part of a flood relief channel with a weir where sea #birds are often found resting. Today there were #gulls but other times you may see #cormorants or #shags there. Further on, the #cyclepath goes by the #ExeterCanal and it has been nice to see people still #exercising i.e. #running, #cycling or #walking by the water.
