Via Studio Escalier:
“Roman glass cup from the Himlingøje burial site in Denmark, from 2nd and 3rd century, found in graves of a rich or princely family. [Cups like this one] are so well-preserved that finders have used them mistakenly as vases for flowers, without realizing that they were ancient productions.”

☀️ For #EpigraphyTuesday: piece of a roman glass cup with a gladiators fight scene. Dated to the 1st-2nd c. AD, this cup bears names of some presumably famous gladiators: Petraites, Prudes, Proculus and Cocumbus. Now in Lugdunum Museum, Lyon. #romanglass 📸 Own pic.
A seriously difficult piece of ancient glass to photograph properly. This small 3rd-4th
c. CE Roman glass vessel has *thirteen* handles. Some residue remains inside, and it probably came from a tomb somewhere in the eastern Mediterranean. #GettyVilla #ancientglass #RomanGlass

☀️ For #GlassObjectThursday: two examples of roman dates-shaped balsamarii. One is from the Benaki Museum, Athens, and the second one is now in the Roman Glass Museum of Zadar. They were produced around the 2nd c. AD in Syria-Palestine. 📸 Own pics. #RomanGlass

🪔 Just visited the #Benaki Museum in Athens. The collection includes a few beautiful examples of #RomanGlass. 👉
Didn't have time to post yesterday for Rome's birthday. Traditionally, Rome's founding date is April 21, making Rome 2,775 years old. Here are images of ancient Roman glass in The Corning Museum of Glass.1. Mosaic glass bowl. Italy or East Mediterranean, 125-1 BCE. 2. Dish cover in the form of a fish. Probably Italy, 1st Century CE. 3. Wine pitcher with applique of a follower of Dionysus at the handle. Probably Italy, 50-75 CE. #ancientglass #Romanglass #antiquities #ancientart #arthistory

🪔 I used to think about #millefiori roman glass bowls (circa 1st c. AD) as beautiful but not very refined pieces of art. But look what happens when they are put in front of a source of light: they glow✨️. Own📸 photo. Taken in BnF, Paris. #romanglass
Wonderful #Roman glass, a jug with inner jug made probably in Cologne (Germany) in the early 4th century. Now in Switzerland https://blog.nationalmuseum.ch/2020/07/roemisches-glas/… Cantonal archeology Schaffhausen / Rolf Wessendorf

@sinabhfuil that’s a broad question. Grain storage began in aerated elevated silos then would be transferred to sacks or earthenware vessels, for temporary transport and immediate use, as grain can spoil in humid environments very quickly. Herbs can be hung and dried then stored in either glass or pottery. Romans produced glass, turned wooden vessels such as plates and cups, produced metalware and of course pottery. #RomanGlass #TheLegionary
Romans produced glass on an industrial scale. This is a small collection of glassware, from a local artisan, that are reproductions of originals located in the Perigueux Vesunna Roman museum here in France. #RomanGlass #VerreRomain #TheLegionary #Vesunna

Roman two-handled flask
This beautiful flask was crafted as an ornament rather than for practical use. A popular design of the time, it would have been a much valued possession. It was likely made in Britain.
350-400 AD

#Blue is the colour of choice today, therefore some more #blue glass: A #Roman opaque blue amphora (two-handled jar) found in Trier. Such glassware was very fashionable in the 1st century AD.
On display at Landesmuseum Trier.

@ninawillburger I just read how the searching works here, I mean - by hashtags not by words. Perhaps you should consider more specific # for your posts, like #RomanGlass for example?
Just a thought 🙋♀️
