I ran an initial session of #RootRPG last night. Just character creation and a few opening moves in the Gelilah's Gulch scenario from the book itself. Which, to be honest, I don't love, but it does a fair job of complexifying perceptions about the dominant factions, and lets me get the hang of the moves and special rules before I have to start improvising characters and scenarios.

You can see #RootRPG straining here and there against Powered by the Apocalypse's neat division between player moves and GM moves. A trigger like "When you meet someone important for the first time…" might be a player choice occasionally, but presenting an important NPC is more likely to be a result of the GM's initiative. But the move triggers a roll, and #PbtA rolls are supposed to be player-facing, so Meet Someone Important ends up being a player move.

I foresee missing that trigger a lot.

Back from #GenCon ! My first convention experience ever. It was a blast! Played #TrailOfCthulu , #RootRPG , #AvatarLegendsRPG , and had maybe the most fun I can remember in a #TTRPG with #NightsBlackAgents

I really like the rules light system and how the system makes me and my players flex our yes and muscles.

I have to many missing players today so had to cancel my morning session. My evening session is also on hiatus for a month. I guess I'll use today to do some game prep and work. I need to get #Rootrpg #MOTW back into my schedule and my new intro to ttrpg improv added to my schedule.

#RPGaDay2023 Day 3: First #RPG bought (this year).

If we stick to actual RPGs rather than supplements for RPGs I already own then it would be #RootRPG bought at #7HillsRPGConvention after playing in a game there. I’d not been interested in #PbtA games previously but I really enjoyed Root. I’ve not been able to get it to the gaming table myself but I’m hoping to at some point.

Played a couple games at #FreeRPGDay at the #FLGS today. First up was #RootRPG, which continues to be a mostly good game. Second game was #DragonBane, which I DO NOT recommend for two reasons:
1: One of the pregen characters in the handout had a personality descriptor of "Bigoted. Nightkin such as orcs and goblins are evil and need to be fought." - Yikes.

A couple of games of #LiminalRPG today at #7HillsRPG. One I ran myself this morning as a replacement (Ghosts of Glencoe) that ran short but the players seemed to enjoy it and one run by @SavageSpiel. This latter one was a great investigation with really interesting PCs. Great fun 👍

Picked up the #RootRPG after yesterday's game and won the #BlueRose Quickstart in the raffle. Looking forward to giving them a read/run out.

When I need a name during the game, I’ll be able to pick it and immediately have a place to note who they are.
