Today’s listening is ‘Stranded’ the 1973 album by Roxy Music.

The terrific 3rd album by Brian and pals, featuring ‘1973 Playmate of the Year’ (ahem) Marilyn Cole on the front cover, which may have done something for sales in the teenage boy demographic.

Imagine, if you will, an alternate past in which ‘A Song For Europe’ is the UK’s entry for the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest. Roxy Music win, thereby relegating a certain Swedish pop quartet to pop obscurity…

Just before and around the time I came out as transmasc I got really into Roxy Music and watched as many early live clips as I could find on YouTube. I wasn't studying masculinity by studying its self-conscious performance, or at least I didn't know I was at the time. I thought I was just into Bryan Ferry. Which I am. But for a time his stage persona became a sort of touchstone for me, something that felt like it could explain my whole life.

Today’s listening is ‘Country Life’, the 1974 album by Roxy Music.
Side 1 is terrific, whereas side 2 is just mostly, well, odd.
Mr Ferry seems to have lost his singing voice warble by this point.
The German connection:
Michael Karoli (the guitarist from the band 'Can') was the brother of Constanze Karoli and his girlfriend at this time was Eveline Grunwald.
These 2 women are the cover models for the album.
Wonder what Michael thought about that?!
