Ah yes.
I remember going to a bookstore, to buy 'The Satanic Verses'*, to be able to see for myself what all the fuss was about.

That dates me in so many ways.

*I'd read Midnight's Children and disliked it, a lot. I could easily see that Rushdie was a great writer but he wasn't for me. That happens. It's why it is so dumb to conflate 'taste' with 'quality'.
