We've teamed up with Cheryl Moses, editor of Black Gwinnett Magazine, to file a formal complaint with the Dept of Justice Civil Rights Division demanding the reversal of severe restrictions on dropboxes in Georgia.

Despite a judge adding one Saturday to #EarlyVoting for the #Georgia Senate #Runoff, that’s still only 7 days, and in some counties only 5 days. Not mentioned in the press: the new law, #SB202, shutters all ballot #dropboxes except on Early Voting days, during Early Voting hours. Dropbox votes fall 2:1 for Democrats. So, cutting Early Voting all but eliminates the dropbox ballots that won the runoff for Warnock in 2021.

Among the provisions of #SB202 that cut into the mail-in vote: Dropboxes were all but banned in urban (ie Black) counties. Specifically, counties aren't allowed to provide more than 1 dropbox per 100,000 population—reducing the dropboxes in the Atlanta area from 107 to 25!

#Georgia’s SB202 or, as the NAACP calls it, Jim Crow 2.0, shortened the period for the Warnock-Walker Senate #runoff on Dec 6, which meant that voter registration closed THE DAY BEFORE the declaration of a runoff. The date squeezes early voting to just a few days and allows only a teeny window to ask for and return mail-in ballots — ballots which break 2:1 for Democrats.
