Since the closure of the #Gotthard🇨🇭base tunnel, trains are being re-routed via the “mountain-line”. The #SBB online travel planner now states a travelling time of 2 hrs 15 min for Lucerne to Bellinzona (instead of 1 hr 24 min through the 57 km tunnel) - the same as back in 1981.

#Aesch🇨🇭station on the Swiss #Jurabahn is at the southern end of the double tracked section of the line from Basel and therefore a place where the #Laufental S-Bahn (Basel area S3) trains and #SBB line 51 #InterCity services to/from Biel/Bienne can meet.

A pair of #SBB🇨🇭 Cargo class 421 electrics is seen here working a southbound freight through #Rüdesheim 🇩🇪 on the right bank of the #Rhine river. These locos were originally built as class Re4/4II, mainly for hauling domestic passenger trains in Switzerland.

The narrow-gauge #Zentralbahn🇨🇭#Brünig railway at #Interlaken and Lake #Brienz in August 2007. That stretch is mostly flat (according to Swiss standards that is), yet this former #SBB line also includes some rack railway sections further north, towards #Luzern.

#SwissExpress🇨🇭 liveried #SBB Re 4/4 II electric #11108 is seen here at #Zurich main station in April 2006, ready to work an afternoon #EuroCity train bound for #Salzburg 🇦🇹. At Buchs (SG) an ÖBB loco will take over. Because of the layer of “cream” paint this locomotive is nicknamed #Cremeschnitte by railfans.

Mir ist mal wieder bewusst geworden, wie wichtig die grenzüberschreitende Zusammenarbeit zwischen den Bahnen ist, damit Reisende und Güter besser, schneller und günstiger ans Ziel kommen.
Eigentlich steht nichts dagegen, wir müssen es #einfachNurMachen.

Good morning from the #SBB🇨🇭 #SOB #Traverso #TrenoGottardo service from #Basel to southern Switzerland. This trainset hasn’t got a proper @diningcar yet one can get some decent coffee from a vending machine. With 2 CHF the cup ☕️ it rather is on the inexpensive side for Swiss standards.

In #Geneva🇨🇭 switching from #Flixbus to the Swiss Railways #SBB #CFF. Travelling along the lake (nice views) we overtake an #SNCF 🇫🇷 #Alstom class #Z31500 #Régiolis unit on a “Léman Express” working. (Oh, so this is where French trains go into hiding when there is a rail strike in France 🤓.)

Es handelt sich dabei um eine Entwicklung von #Stadler Rail - SMILE (Schneller Mehrsystemfähiger Innovativer Leichter Expresszug) EC250 - der erste Niederflur-Hochgeschwindigkeitstriebzug der Welt ! SBB ist nach meinem Wissen bis Heute der einzige Käufer.
