Since the closure of the #Gotthard🇨🇭base tunnel, trains are being re-routed via the “mountain-line”. The #SBB online travel planner now states a travelling time of 2 hrs 15 min for Lucerne to Bellinzona (instead of 1 hr 24 min through the 57 km tunnel) - the same as back in 1981.
#Aesch🇨🇭station on the Swiss #Jurabahn is at the southern end of the double tracked section of the line from Basel and therefore a place where the #Laufental S-Bahn (Basel area S3) trains and #SBB line 51 #InterCity services to/from Biel/Bienne can meet.

A pair of #SBB🇨🇭 Cargo class 421 electrics is seen here working a southbound freight through #Rüdesheim 🇩🇪 on the right bank of the #Rhine river. These locos were originally built as class Re4/4II, mainly for hauling domestic passenger trains in Switzerland.

The narrow-gauge #Zentralbahn🇨🇭#Brünig railway at #Interlaken and Lake #Brienz in August 2007. That stretch is mostly flat (according to Swiss standards that is), yet this former #SBB line also includes some rack railway sections further north, towards #Luzern.

Zurück vom gemeinsamen #hackathon von #ÖBB #SBB und #DB in #Wien. Mir ist mal wieder bewusst geworden, wie wichtig die grenzüberschreitende Zusammenarbeit zwischen den Bahnen ist, damit Reisende und Güter besser, schneller und günstiger ans Ziel kommen.
