There was significant buzz around @risc_v at #sc22 last month, with #HPC being an important target community. This sounds like it will be an interesting and topical talk at #RISCVSummithttps://twitter.com/pilot_euproject/status/1602955353683120129

Congratulations to Dr. Ian Foster, named 2022 ACM IEEE CS Ken Kennedy Award recipient at #SC22!
Last week I spent some time in #SC22 and I came away surprised at the divergent evolution of HPC and the computing required by the largest of tech companies.
Both must handle massive quantities of data, transform it, analyse it and use the results for different goals. HPC has the bonus of doing complex computation on the data.
But the way they've solved it has been nearly diametrically opposite. While the largest tech companies have moved to massive repeating blocks of simple hardware, HPC has gone towards exotic storage, interconnects, and power delivery.
While big tech is in a race to the simplest possible deployments, it feels like every HPC cluster is a very complex machine that must be understood on its own.
It's hard for me to say either are wrong but it’s interesting that parsing 100TB of stored data on each type of system would look very different.
On the last day, I also went to a security in HPC workshop and frankly, I was horrified at just how simplistic the discussion and the security steps that were discussed. I felt everything was very disconnected from how modern networks are managed, secured, and monitored.
Here’s a new Genoa node from #SC22. Three M.2 slots and NDR400 InfiniBand (upper left), a ton of DDR5, and a big SmartNIC (lower left). A couple server designers admired the heat pipe configuration on the show floor; I guess it’s unusual but these are hot 96-core sockets.
And after attending a panel on #OneAPI my #SC22 is over. I'll rest a bit, go see the #DallasMavericks play tonight, and then head back to #Amsterdam. It was a good conference, and hopefully I'll be able to attend #SC23 in #Denver next year.

So excited that we won the best student paper at #SC22 this year for our work on automatic differentiation for parallel programs with #Enzyme.

Really productive and enjoyable collaboration between folks at MIT CSAIL, Argonne and TUM!
Just landed in the UK after an amazing #SC22. Not only was it lovely to get to spend some quality bonding time with my #mathworks colleagues but I got to speak to what felt like hundreds of people who are interested in #MATLAB.
Also caught up with many friends from the community who I haven’t seen for far too long and made a bunch of new friends too!
One of my favourite moments was when a MATLAB dev was bonding with a Julia dev over their shared coffee geekery!
dat you ? @vchuravy

My colleagues presented an interesting paper on autotuning GPUs for energy efficiency titled "Going green: optimizing GPUs for energy efficiency through model-steered auto-tuning".
Preprint is already available https://arxiv.org/abs/2211.07260
