Why would anyone hiring for #SDET ask for #portfolios? Everything I've written has been proprietary #workforhire that is the property of the company I did the work for. I don't get to keep copies of it. So, am I supposed to be just... I dunno... writing #automated #tests for... imaginary apps, in my spare time?

Wondering if now is the time to consider either 1. starting a #QA firm or 2. follow the stereotypical pattern and move into proper #development

The thing is, I'm pretty sure I'd be eligible for less pay as a jr. app #dev than as a sr. #SDET.

There is little more soul destroying to me that the idea of working for a financial institution. Every job opportunity of that ilk that comes my way, I just groan. Great pay, great benefits, but ugh, no thanks.

I am part of the great #twittermigration. I'm a 47-year-old #SDET. I've been working in #QA for 17 years. I live in MA b/c I came here for college & never left. I pay way too much attention to #politics which is bad for my mental health, but it's my duty, so I keep doing it.

For fun, I #garden haphazardly and ineffectively. I'm learning to grow culinary #mushrooms and am now finally getting mildly competent at it.
