#SDOT showed 30% design
still early, looks promising
-concrete 2-way PBL on Airport Way from Elysium-Alaska (slip lane removal!)
-pt of 6th Ave off street tree-divided PBL (like Westlake Cycletrack)
-safe connection btwn S end SODO Trail & 6th Ave
They’ll likely have updated designs on project page Friday
Misc:
-6th & Spokane needs further study
-Future possible project for downtown #Georgetown: bike infra on Airport Way or rail-trail on rail spur 1 block over

This piece depresses me somewhat, partly because how slow #SDOT is at rolling bus lanes out is directly undermining King County Metro. #WSDOT is undermining all regional transit agencies by not putting real bus lanes on freeways. Any minute the bus is stuck in traffic not only makes the bus less competitive but sucks up operator time that could go to frequency (on that route or another). https://mastodon.social/@davidzipper/110095152765248838
1/2 Quick story: being tired of encountering drivers parking in the bike lanes at each side of Pike St & Boren Ave on #Seattle Capitol Hill and getting absolutely no response to reports/FIFI/etc from #SDOT I did a little experiment a week ago by installing my own signs @carbikelanesea

The #Seattle #SDOT 90 day vision zero review is out (late) which you can read online: https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/safety-first/vision-zero/vision-zero-review?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery
I got a press release email from the city about it which highlighted "momentum-building actions" that are being taken which I cannot help but comment on.
I know the story of 2 projects in #PeopleForBikes "BEST of 2022". Both were built only after hard-won advocacy fights.
I wonder about genesis of others on the "Best" list
#BetterNaito #PDX started as #BetterBlock student work at @TRECpdx@urbanists Supported by a People Protected #Bike Lane demo by @bikeloudpdx
The #Seattle #GreenLake people path took combined #PeoplePower of
#GLWstreets #AuroraReimagened + #SNGreenways
Grateful to #PBOT #SDOT for implementing!

Shout out to @Spottnik, the new director of #Seattle #DOT who came in saying #VisionZero and #SafeStreets were his top priority
#SDOT just released their detailed org chart (kudos to all public agencies that make their org charts public). #SeattleDOT now includes 50 people directly tasked with #safety including #SafeRoutestoSchool, #CompleteStreets, #ADA, #Bike & #Pedestrian planners. Led by Jim Curtin who began at SDOT a decade ago with just a 3-person VisionZero team.

Back to no redundancy in safe routes for people on bikes. The Spokane low bridge is going to re-open and per SDOT: "With the low bridge reopening today to people biking, walking, rolling, and driving, we will remove the temporary bike detour route on 1st Ave S, as planned. This will take place on Saturday, Jan. 14."
I guess next time it gets stuck or breaks, we have to wait a few days for SDOT to put a detour in.
If I had to pick one new Pedestrian Plaza (excluding Ballard Ave) in the #ballard Area I would pick Sunset Hill. Some great shops and restaurants with some amazing views nearby that a pocket park could really maximize!
Let #SDOT know on their new #STP map! https://seattletransportationplan.infocommunity.org/

Hey #Seattle Folks! SO the #Ballard #Fremont Greenways wrote up a document with some suggestions for #SDOT for when they repave 15th Ave NW (Ballard Bridge -> Ballard Market).
#SDOT is currently ONLY repaving the roadway... We want to see if we can make some commonsense pedestrian safety improvements at the same time!
You can find more information at https://ballardfremont.seattlegreenways.org/ballard-reconnected/
And you can send an email with our mailer to #SDOT and local electeds here: https://secure.lglforms.com/form_engine/s/jCBMLM0nrLmI9Hxkbwb8wA

Finished reading the Outreach Report for #Aurora Ave Project made by #SDOT & #KingCountyMetro and the following business owner concern stood out to me:
"They also mentioned
collisions and speeding as a constant challenge along the corridor, & some of them consider
that bike lanes are not necessary."
How should we, as Active Trans. Advocates, convince businesses that bike lanes can be an effective means to slow traffic & reduce collisions, while being good for business?

#SDOT is finally addressing this section of the road this week. It only took 8-9 months of complaints but at least they're getting it done before the EOY! Huzzah!
Do these cones mean it’s a reroute of pedestrian traffic? Or is it a detour (like the sign says)? It’s confusing and all pedestrians that I have seen assume it’s a reroute alongside the road. The distinction is important to determine if this setup is violating #SDOT DR 10-2015. This is at Greenwood Ave and N 77th St. Also the detour has no crosswalk, while I understand that legally each intersection is a crosswalk, drivers in cars don’t behave that way.
I just learned about this discounted #RideShare program for bikes and scooters from #SDOT for qualifying users. Website: http://seattle.gov/ScooterShare #SEAbikes

Our #cat is also very concerned about #VisionZero and #SafeStreets This was after I reviewed the 60% plan #SDOT provided for repaving 15th Ave in #ballard Let me know what changes you’d most like to see from the #BallardBridge up past Market St below! #BikeTooter #CatsOfMastodon #Urbanism #seattle

I have been reporting this patch of road at 7006 Greenwood Ave (near the fire station)for months on Find It Fix It. It's very uncomfortable on a regular bike and flat out dangerous on the #CargoBike. The divits in the surface of the road are deep and span the width of the traffic lanes, there's no escaping them. What would it take to enforce fixing them by the general contractor or #SDOT?
Genuine #seattle transportation question, with the new #ST3 plan slllooowwwllly making progress, is there a #SDOT plan for connecting these new station to #BikeLanes and safe #pedestrian corridors?
Maybe @Spottnik knows 👀 (unfortunately SDOT doesn’t have an account here yet 😭)

@Spottnik @electricemu @daihard it is much appreciated :D
I think this is a very visceral subject for a lot of advocates and good faith communication is a solid foundation! I know I’m excited to see the #visionzero review and even more excited to see how #SDOT actuates those findings into results!
This will definitely be the opportunity for the city of #seattle to show that we’re not just fancy pics of project timelines 😎
