As the last of the #sfbart legacy fleet rolls into the reserve fleet, here’s a picture I took last weekend on my last ride on the legacy fleet in regular service. The sun is setting over the old rolling stock. This is real, and also a metaphor.

Someone with more time than me really needs to design and upload some #SFBart train models to #Thingiverse.

This is after I had to wait ~20 min at Civic Center for the #train to Dublin, in #SanFrancisco. I waited a good 40 minutes at Lake Merritt transfer station and finally arrived in #Fremont at almost exactly midnight, at which time the station agent leaves, but trains are still running so the gates are left open.

The station agent left one fare gate open for people to just walk out, but it wasn't the one that's #wheelchair-width. I was stuck. The emergency/ #disabled swing gate was locked. And then a fight broke out between some people who were out late partying, who seem to have timed their arrival for the free entry.

Finally an old guy coming in pointed out to me that there was another emergency gate, which would set off loud alarms if I used it, and I was just about to, but he used popeye-arms to wrench open the gates on the wheelchair-width fare gate (which is what breaks them, but whatever) so that I could get out.

BART is spending $90m on harder to jump fare gates, while raising fares to bring in an extra $23m it needs. The funding source could just be, don't install new fare gates.

I sympathize with the jumpers: BART fares are extremely high relative to peer systems like DC's Metro (which is $6 max, and $2 flat fare nights/weekends). At a time of low ridership, it's frustrating to see #SFBART spend money to keep people *off* the trains.

Had a flash from the past! Does anybody in #sfbayarea remember the #naruto limited edition #SFBART cards? There where like 3 or 4 of them around like 2010ish maybe. Nobody I know seems to know what I'm talking about.

@kyleve @skinnylatte anybody who lives in or loves #sfba needs to look at Vincent Woo’s documentary “Tunnel Vision”! Glad to see he was on this Forum episode. Hey, #SFBART, get him to visually document all of the lines not just the yellow line from SFO to Pittsburg/Bay Point.
