It's very curious to me how often the basic #GSS name generator question doesn't automatically lead the people I talk to to name their spouses. Out of 19 interviews so far, almost no one has named a spouse/significant other even when they do name other family members.

Network scholars, I have a question for you.

I'm writing an ego-centric network gathering survey and I'd like to get the gender of alters of coworkers.

I had a few students pilot the study and they pointed out that they are not confident in how their coworkers identify.

I'd love suggestions for an inclusive way to ask this question.

Simplifying things I know, but network analysis was given a major impetus by the internet and social media. It reveals new trends but can flatten evidence. I wonder to what extent the fall out of Twitter on the one hand and awareness of more powerful algorithms (like TikTok’s) on the other will affect the field. The idea that power can sit above the network and impact it in almost invisible ways. #SNA #SocialMedia

I've spent the weekend with a #network analysis of the deities in the Greek #magical #papyrus PGM VII.

The results are phenomenal, I didn't expect neither the outcomes nor the amount of new information the analyses offered.

Johan came up with an ingenious strategy for modelling networks of networks - cases where you have multiple reports on the same network, and the sources of those reports are themselves connected.

The framework is illustrated using Nikita and colleagues' fascinating socio-semantic data, where a) each person produces a semantic network based on how they refer to concepts in their discourse, b) the people are themselves tied in a social network, and c) there is an external "expert" semantic network against which to compare the participants' semantic networks.

Basically, if you represent ties in the reported networks as nodes which can be connected based on co-reporting, you can analyse a network of networks using any tools for analysing multilevel network.
