@mike Mike were #sauropods like #Brachiosaurus wide or narrow gauge? also if we assume #Maraapunisaurus was a #rebbachisaurid would it have been wide or narrow gauged? i need to know for reasons :P

friends what is the most gracile #sauropod in terms of proportions? like were there any #sauropods that were skinny like a giraffe? if not what kept these #dinosaurs from evolving such builds?
#sauropod #Sauropods #dinosaurs
most sauropods were only the size of one or two elephants, but three dozen times they grew to the size of a dozen elephants

thinking about #Perucetus , #whales , #sauropods , and their sizes, I am reminded of the great series on whale sizes Joe ( @CetologyH ) did on the Cetology Hub blog:
https://callmejoe3.wordpress.com/category/cetacea/size/
It doesn't include Perucetus, (yet?) but it is wonderful for putting Perucetus in context. Some great reads on the sizes of whales and other huge animals.
#fossilFriday , since Joe includes some fossil animals

listened to the most recent episode of Terrible Lizards, which is mostly about @dave_hone 's recent visit to Utah and Colorado, and what he saw there. Nobody tell @dave_hone that Coahuilaceratops was described in 2010, Teratophoneus in 2011, Lythronax in 2013 ... : )
Great episode. https://terriblelizards.libsyn.com/tls09e06-utah-rapture

Inspired by @markwitton 's recent question about Magyarosaurus, I decided re-read Justin Tweet's blog post about Magyarosaurus at the Equatorial Minnesota blog:
It's very good, and it's part of his wonderful, exhaustive series Your Friends the Titanosaurs, which should be of interest to anyone interested in sauropods:

Sauropod winners: I have to draw Magyarosaurus and am feeling lost - so little data to work from. The convention seems to be rendering a small Saltosaurus-type animal and hoping for the best. Is that the least-worst route to take right now? (Unrelated sauropod #paleoart below)

A few days ago, Matt Wedel wrote a post about the Haplocanthosaurus from Dry Mesa quarry, and the amazing sauropod diversity of the Morrison formation:
random #SauropodSaturday question: there's no skull known from any Patagotitan specimen. But, every museum mount I've seen photos of has a skull, bc reasons. What is that skull based on?
To my non-paleontologist eye, it kind of looks like Sarmientosaurus, but only approximately. It doesn't really look much like Rapetosaurus or Tapuiasaurus. It kind of looks like Nemegtosaurus, but with a longer muzzle and a few other differences.
so ... what is it based on?

There are at least a few island sauropods; Magyarosaurus, and Europasaurus come to mind. And there are several sauropod groups, including diplodocids, dicraeosaurs, brachiosaurs, and titanosaurs, which appear on multiple landmasses, sometimes without obvious land connections. Note: I don't mean to bring back the bad old idea of semi-aquatic sauropods; I don't think they're at all suited for that.

sauropod biogeography speculation: what if sauropods were tortoise-like in their ability to weather long ocean voyages, and occasionally arrive intact and able to start a population in a new place, despite not being particularly marine-adapted?

It's a sauropod - Dicraeosaurus, by Haolonggood/GR Toys!
New on the Dinosaur Toy Blog: https://dinotoyblog.com/dicraeosaurus-haolonggood-gr-toys/
"Dinosaur figurine companies have continuously been raising the bar in fine sculpt details, and Haolonggood almost certainly sits among the best so far."

So what kind of #dinosaur is your cereal shapes? #Sauropods or #therapods?
Yes.

#Sauropods are the most awe-inspiring of #dinosaurs, #evolving into the largest land #animals of all time. One of the most important #fossils for understanding #sauropod origins comes from Lake #Kariba on the #Zimbabwe/#Zambia border (the #bones come from the Zimbabwe πΏπΌ side of the lake). The early sauropod found there was named Vulcanodon karibaenesis and it's a rare window into the early #Jurassic world of the oldest sauropods.

I'm pretty slammed with work at the moment so finding time for my own (= book) work is challenging, but here's my current #dinosaur #paleoart WIP: Alamosaurus hulking out at the local theropod vermin. Should have made it green.
