The TLDR is: We don’t need to build on the Greenbelt. We can’t afford to build on the Greenbelt. And we can still choose NOT to build on the Greenbelt.

I wish I had more great #worldwetlandsday content for you #today, but I’m sick and struggling to make it through the work day. I did get to #teach a virtual classroom of 4th year students about how we do conservation science and I spent the afternoon in a grad student’s proposal defence helping her make her #wetlands research as impactful as possible. But I’m pretty burnt out and sick folks 😢. We have so much work to do to #SaveOntarioWetlands

Anyway, this is all to say you can’t argue #urban wetlands are not valuable. #UrbanWetlands are not wastelands. In fact, increasingly I’m convinced they are some of our MOST #valuable natural heritage features. It is essential we protect them. Fight #Bill23. Fight #development in the #greenbelt. I’m new to Mastadon - another bird app refugee. I study #wetlands #invertebrates #birds #plants, especially how to manage #invasivespecies and to conserve #speciesAtRisk. I run the #WaterlooWetlandLab at the #University of #Waterloo. I’m getting pretty agitated by #Ontario ‘s Ford #government who are passing #Bill23 that will destroy many wetlands to profit developers. Lately, I’m working hard to #SaveOntarioWetlands.
