An old-school traffic engineer would grade this street Level Of Service F because not enough cars can get through.
Let’s ditch that antiquated way of thinking about our streets, and design them to align with our community needs and values instead.

One thing I love about our #schoolstreet is the sense of community it builds. So much yacking! That and the number of dogs that “need” petting.

This morning I had an exchange with @saskia about a setback with establishing a #SchoolStreet in Bath. Since then I've been thinking about all those #UK local councils that declared a #ClimateEmergency in 2019. I thought I might share here a (not very good paper) I wrote about my experiences with this here in #Eastbourne - what worked, what didn't. Maybe useful for some, I don't know. Would love to hear others!

The overwhelming majority choose to walk, scoot or ride.

Very disappointing to see a local council dismantle a #SchoolStreet by stealth. For child safety and health we need more of these designated streets not less.
I daily witness near misses outside my children’s junior school and engines left idling. We need to get back to children being able to safely walk and ride their bikes to school.

Time for an #Introductory toot.

Work as a Project Manager in the HE sector, knocking down, building new and refurbishing existing buildings.

I'm also a Local Councillor, and have recently launched a #SchoolStreet and a #LowTrafficNeighbourhood in our Ward. And we've exciting plans to retrofit some social housing.

So I've decided to use this site to post and ask questions about the intersect of all of these roles.

It'll mainly be #cycling, infrastructure, #decarbonisation, #retrofit, #netzero

Another day, another chaotic #SchoolRun pickup with queuing drivers, idling engines, people parking on zig-zags in front of "no parking" signs shaped like children.

Another one of those instances of a driver abandoning his expensive vehicle too. Sat in the queue, he just gets out and walks off!

I wonder if compiling a video and sending it through to councillors, the county council, the school, police etc. would be any benefit at all? We need a #SchoolStreet!

Some brave primary school children near me are mounting a resistance to the council ripping up their #SchoolStreet, a #SafeStreets #parklet #ActiveTransport measure to keep them safe from cars.
