Took my AP Bio students outside for the first day of a three week long entomology project that involves creating an insect collection.

They were reluctant until we got out there w/ the nets & collecting jars. Then, the thrill of discovery (and the hunt) took over. By the end of the period, they were openly excited.

Mission accomplished.

All good things must come to an end.

It's my final weekend before I head back to the classroom. It's been a lightly productive spring break for me. I did some housework, yard work, school work. Did some writing, some reading, hung out with the fam. Nothing flashy or exciting, just fun and relaxing. Good thing too.

Summer vacation's 11 weeks away. [Deep, bracing breaths]. I can do this. 😂

"You've got two science classes taking their midterm exams at the same time. We're going to put them at opposite ends of the school so that you can spend two hours running back and forth to field questions and trouble shoot tech issues!"

2nd to last day of school before my spring break begins.

Do I have a ton of grading to do? Yep. Am I doing any of it? Nope.

I'm cooked, mentally, so I'm using today to jot down some story ideas, revise a couple of pieces, hopefully send them out on submission, and generally tend to my personal life interests.

Last day of classes before winter break. Then I'm off for 17 glorious days!

I just read a student's response to an ecology journal prompt that was so bad it made me wonder if they didn't just use their phone's text auto-suggestions to craft the entire thing. It was SO bad. Unintelligibly bad. Nonsensically bad! We're talking about a high school student, fyi. This is why I'm a science teacher & not an english teacher.

Today, I finished blocking out the next three weeks of lesson plans, labs, projects, quizzes, and homework assignments for my 9th grade biology classes, my AP Biology class, and my forensics class. That'll see me through to Winter Break. I can't tell you how stinking good that feels. It means I'll actually have time to write!!
