When discussing #Scihub it's surprising how many people just defer their ethical judgement to the law.

What are some of the stronger arguments against #Scihub? I'm preparing a discussion session for a course, and so far the only argument we have against Scihub is that it's illegal, which seems like a very weak argument. I have a bunch of strong arguments for Scihub though.

(un)popular opinion : I'm sick of reading these ironic antithetical statements about #SciHub and #LibGen over and over again (students, you should never use these websites, make sure you don't, blah blah blah) This joke has gotten old so fast, pure cringe, stop it. Anyway, it doesn't make you a super communist hacker to download pdf's to never read them.

No matter how bleak our capitalist, neoliberal society may get, there will always be groups of people who get together to make beautiful things. Groups who find power and resistance in joy, community and care.

Groups like #ExtinctionRebellion and #BlackLivesMatter, initiatives like #SciHub and #SomaFM, but also the many tribes of indigenous peoples remind us that there are always alternatives. That generosity is always an option. I owe them a debt of gratitude. 💚

I think the #scientists are the biggest group #migration. At least in #academia

I don't think anything will take the place of Twitter as #science bulletin board.

Maybe there could be one trusted instance neutrally hosting the #content.

But do they they don't really want #longform public posts, If they did #SciHub would be respected and not blocked all over the place.

Si no fuera por esta maravillosa mujer 👑, a cambio de nada, retó y quebró el sistema, marcó un hito académico y estableció que el conocimiento científico debe de estar al alcance de absolutamente todos y no lucrar ni privarnos de la ciencia. Sin ella y su #SciHub la vida académica sería y hubiése sido mucho más dificil. Para muchos un ídolo y para otros un gran dolor de cabeza.
