Just wondering: Does anyone know of any sources/reports that discuss differences between recent archaeological excavation programmes of Scotland/Ireland/Northern Ireland (or any combination of these)?
Interested to look at the varying site distributions and if there are varying trends in what types of sites are being excavated more frequently where.
Thank you for helping out a tired PhD student! 😂

This photo gives a better idea of the scale of the cairn. It would have taken a massive amount of dedicated effort by many people to collect all the stones required for this cairn and move them up to the top of the hill (which is surprisingly steep for a relatively low summit).

The 4,500 year old Bronze Age cairn on the top of Tinto Hill (height 711 metres) to the south east of Glasgow. This means it was constructed about the same time as the Great Pyramid at Giza. It is one of the largest Bronze Age cairns in Britain.

Just come across this photo of an unfeasibly tall standing stone on the west coast of Lewis. Looks to be 5m tall (so about 2m shorter than the Rudston monolith in East Yorkshire). How much extends into the ground? How many people were involved in erecting it? The mind boggles!

#Cramond in #Edinburgh is full of wonderful #ruins ! These are the remains of a cottage, supposedly belonging to Jock Howieson, who appears in Sir Walter Scott’s “Tales of a Grandfather.” Disguised #KingJamesV was attacked at the nearby Cramond Brig by thieves, but was saved by auld Jock - who didn’t recognise the disguised king! Jock was invited to #HolyroodPalace as thanks for his care x #archaeology #scottisharchaeology
