Stobo Kirk, south-west of Peebles in the Scottish Borders. It is one of the oldest standing churches in Scotland, largely dating back to around 1120, and was built near the place where St Mungo is said to have baptised Merlin. A misty morning run around the #Mintos

Out at daybreak but heavy haar shrouded the hills. Good temperature (it will be too hot for the dug later on). Normal morning circuit - 8.5k on quiet roads, but we were delayed by the brambles. I couldn't deny the early fruit breakfast - my fingers were purple, but as I pointed out to my partner, she could have come out and the only reason she was up was that the kits had sat on her head until they were fed.

Discovered Scotland

Coming back from St Abbs, we called into never visited Coldingham Priory, a delight. Another building burnt by Cromwell's men (they have a lot to answer for, much stioll visible). It was rebuilt and the original stonework (what remains) incorporated into the building which can be clearly seen inside (complete with scorch marks on the stone).When we visited it was host to a very lively mums (mainly but not exclusively) and toddlers session.

Browsing old #newspapers in the #BritishNewspaperArchive and finding a very intriguing J.G. Yung #accordion performer and piano etc tuner popping up frequently in the #ScottishBorders in the latter half of the 19th century (1850s onwards). A bit of genealogical digging finds he was born in #Darmstadt, #Germany, and died in #Hawick in 1903. Getting another #mentalHealth record for an ancestor, and looking again at this family photo from #Melrose, and seeing if I can spot the relative I've been learning more about today. The massive and brutal edifice of Cessford Castle, south of Kelso. The walls of the keep are over 12ft thick and show that this was a place where defence against attack was considered to be a much higher priority than comfort. We were slowed a little this evening. In the absence of white fluffy things to look after, the dug paused to shift a large flock of young pheasants 1k down the road and then in through a conveniently open gate.

No violence was employed.

He occasionally moonlights at a local farm where he grew up and his mum, dad and sister still putin an honest days work.

With longer swim down the Tweed planned in September, I have been training, my trainer (aka my partner)decided I had better get in some practice in moving water.

In at Abbbotsford and back out 8k down the road at Leaderfoot. 6 bridges and several ‘interesting' rapids - still aching this morning. The largest of them, just by the Chain bridge best taken as a canoeist - picking a line and just going for it. She insisted on the cap as well.
