I think we were exploring a pretty intractable problem, rather than proposing policy solutions.

But just a word of caution about those 'subsidised by urban areas' figures. Obviously I don't know your source, but often (as in discussion of #ScottishIndependance ) such 'subsidies' are calculated merely on tax take and spend figures. This is obvious nonsense, because it doesn't take into account where value is actually generated. Obvious examples are treating taxed earnings and profits as if they were really generated in corporate headquarters in cities, rather than operations elsewhere; or ignoring the massive transfer of wealth from country to town via unrealistic food prices.

As to massive investment in motorways (rather than electric trains, buses, bikes, etc) - well, that's just another aspect of the problem, isn't it?.

Shout it loud enough for those in the back #ScotlandsNotAColony and #ScottishIndependance will happen! Believe and support progress!! It is not only inevitable but a soul right! Autonomy to direct our own laws and passage as an independent nation is paramount. We deserve the dignity to hold our own voice high and let it be heard throughout 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Yes, this is disgusting.

His reporting during the #Assange case was good, that's part of the reason they seem to be attacking him. Also he believes its also related to his support for *genuine* #ScottishIndependance.
