Today i learnt why one of my Mastodon friends (“Chook”) has moved from Kollektiva to another instance. And I’m angry about it.

It begins with a post about Australia’s defence policy & defence spending. Some background might be useful here: our previous government led by Prime minister Scott Morrison (aka #ScottyfromMarketing) cancelled a $A90bn contract with France for the building of a fleet of submarines and entered a new deal “AUKUS” with the UK & US which will see Australia provided with a fleet of 20(?) nuclear powered submarines in about 20 years time. Scotty was thrown out at our last federal election, but our new Labor government plans to go ahead with AUKUS.

In addition to that, Australia remains committed to buying a fleet of F-35 joint strike fighter jets from the US, despite the fact these planes are about as reliable as a Tesla Model-Y in autopilot mode. In short, Australia’s defence policy and defence procurement policy is a joke and a very expensive one.

So Chook posted a toot suggesting a cheaper option for Australia’s defence: cancel the submarine purchase and rent one Nimitz class air carrier from the US. It was an obviously absurd suggestion with, you might think, obvious satiric intent.

Evidently not - within short order Chook had a reply demanding to know what the fuck was weird imperialist fuck doing on an anarchist server. This was merely laughable - just another example of your stereotypical humourless lefty failing to recognise lefty humour.

That’s how the notion of “political correctness” originated back in the 1990s, by the way - lefties taking the piss out of their more humourless comrades and their contorted attempts to drag everything into their preferred ideological framework. Sadly, the humourless Right adopted the idea and we’ve been suffering ever since.

But Humourless didn’t stop at firing off an angry reply - evidently he reported Chook’s toot to Kollektiva mods, because Chook received a notification that the post had violated one or more community guidelines. I suspect one of those guidelines was this one:

And to that I think we can add - anything that might trigger some humourless, self-righteous, self-appointed tome policeman who can’t recognise parody & satire.
