Avian flu has killed wild and domestic #birds for decades but current strain #H5N1 severely affected #seabird populations across #NorthAtlantic, with particularly high death rates among gannets. Black irises – instead of usual blue – were first seen in gannets breeding on Bass in June last year

The group used a novel method (flow #cytometry, usually used to count and analyze cells in liquid culture or suspension) to count extremely tiny #plastic particles in #seabird pre-guano. They found very high abundances of particles per #bird.
