My favorite part of civic engagement events, like the #SeattleCompPlan review in Loyal Heights, is learning a new derogatory nickname for the type of modern skinny townhouse I live in. Tonight, it’s “Ballard Boxes.” (I embrace all the nicknames, telling my neighbors I’ve heard worse.)

The city released its first phase report for the Comprehensive Plan today, which is supposed to decide city housing for the next 10 years.

People showed up in record numbers to tell the city that we wanted and needed more density everywhere.

Unfortunately, the city preemptively decided that the most housing it will even try to entertain is 80,000-120,000 units over the upcoming years.
