3/3 A few final pics of #SeattleStreetFixers #TooleDesign crossover cleanup
-we also cleared this stairway at Beacon Ave/College St that had blackberry vines growing over parts of the railing
-you can see the areas of the sidewalk that were previously covered in soil; some parts were 1/2 covered!

The group worked pretty fast, going down the hill while cutting back overgrowth, shoveling soil off the sidewalk, & raking/brushing debris

Join Seattle Streer Fixers and folks from Toole Design to tackle clearing the sidewalk on Beacon Ave headed west. Meet at Beacon and 13th Ave S on Sunday, April 30th at 9AM! This wide sidewalk is the route from Beacon Hill down to SODO — no sidewalk on the other side. It’s also used by many people biking uphill so they aren’t climbing slowly in a narrow vehicle lane. #Seattle #SeaBikes #SeattleStreetFixers

@GordonOfSeattle I’ve been reporting those flex posts being busted for 2 or more years now with no result. Clearing that bike lane of overgrown vegetation was one of the motivations for formalizing #SeattleStreetFixers.
The ramps at least they are obligated to put in — there are bus stops near some of theme and what if someday we had a complete sidewalk on that side of the street?
A group of #SeattleStreetFixers were out on Capitol Hill Sunday morning clearing a section of sidewalk on Madison near 18th and they got written up in Capitol Hill Seattle! Thank you to everyone who came out to this one! #SeattleStreetFixers
Hullo! This is an #introduction for the #SeattleStreetFixers who you may have seen over on twitter but info was shared here sometimes. We cleanup sidewalks and bike lanes to remove access issues like vegetation covering lots of the space.
We primarily organize events in the google group (https://groups.google.com/g/seattle-street-fixers) though so join over there if you want to get an event together! Rachael thought that maybe there should be a social account over here in fedi. :)
#introduction #SeattleStreetFixers
#SeattleStreetFixers is going to be out TODAY at 1PM in West Seattle clearing some overgrown vegetation from a sidewalk near 6355 41st Ave SW.
Event link put up by a neighborhood group: https://www.byandby.org/events/street-fixers
I’m out of town, but some folks with #SeattleStreetFixers are going to be at the 1st Ave S bridge (https://www.google.com/maps/@47.5419262,-122.3340392,213m/data=!3m1!1e3) connecting Highland Park Way SW in West Seattle and S Michigan St in Georgetown to clear it of debris and muck because the Spokane St low bridge is closed for two weeks! They’re meeting tomorrow Dec 28 at 10AM until folks tire. #Seattle #SeaBikes

#SEAbikes #Seattle conditions: José Rizal Bridge bike lanes & I-90 Trail are both completely clear due to the warm temperature & rain; I didn’t have to unload my snow shovel or ice crusher from my bike for the #SeattleStreetFixers
I did, however, see a few cars sporting new crash damage 😬

I failed to take pictures but #SeattleStreetFixers was out on Columbian Way and Alaska St (the former turns into the latter) around MLK clearing sidewalks and bike lanes of snow and slush. We’d originally gone out to clear leaves from the bike lane but SDOT seems to have sent the sweeper thorough. The slush in this area wasn’t melting fast and much heavier than near me and with 23F predicted over night getting as much off sidewalks will prevent ice formation.
#SeattleStreetFixers cleared by the time I left about 4 blocks of Union St PBL, sidewalks and critically storm drains. Some blocked drains are so bad a cafe was worried overnight about it flooding them as it creeped up the sidewalk. I couldn’t get that one clear but I did clear this one. Before (failed to get a pic) it was covered with water up over the base of the bike signal pole and 2 feet past the yellow tactile strip. A foot deep of water in places.
Tomorrow morning (Friday) at 9AM, #SeattleStreetFixers will be meeting at Union St & 18th and clearing the protected bike lane of leaves, moving east towards MLK. A member of the group called for it because it's still a mess. It might be a bit drizzly but we'll see. I'll have a snow shovel, a wide broom and a rake, plus some spare gloves and some garbage bags for actual trash (leaves we'll probably pile up out of the way the best we can).

I decided earlier this year that I would focus my political and community work on things that weren't electoral politics. Sure I would help out on campaigns if I found a reason to (and I did for one) or donate money, but I wouldn't focus on it. Instead I did a bunch of stuff with #SeattleStreetFixers (https://groups.google.com/g/seattle-street-fixers) and other more local community work.
While I am saddened and heartened by various bits of news I am not obsessed. So that seems good!
Hullo! I just moved my account from @r343l@mastodon.social which seems like I don't need to be on the hugest of instances (though that's where I'd created an account long ago)!
I work in tech in Seattle but spend a lot of my spare time doing local (leftish) politics especially around transportation (I bike, walk or transit most everywhere) and housing. Hobbies (for now!): pottery, choir, cooking, clearing vegetation from sidewalks & bike lanes with #SeattleStreetFixers.

I spend my time when not working as a software developer: biking, attending family & school & church activities, cooking new and tasty things, making pottery, cleaning sidewalks and bike lanes with #SeattleStreetFixers, and doing various politics things around supporting local #climate action especially around #transportation and #housing.
