With the best will in the world to him, the issue with the new MP for #Selby isn't his age. It's that if anything (and this may be unfair) he brings to mind the besuited #Labour Students Jonny Cab factory people from around 2001 - 2010, several of whom appear now to be shadow ministers. They would just repeat phrases like robots. Doesn't half grate.

Coverage of byelections always shows the innumeracy of British journalism.
Vote share/swing is meaningless, but is often the main figure quoted.
A new majority is also irrelevant, given how voters (and candidates) act differently in a #byelection compared to a general election.
The useful measure is actual votes, a finite resource that can be tracked.
• Who stayed at home? Looks to me like about 20,000 Tories in #Selby & Ainsty.
• Who changed their vote? My guess is 3,000 Lib Dem voters.
