Me: “I’m gonna need us to have a shortish meeting today or tomorrow if possible so you can explain this to me. Because I saw it last night and had a full blown meltdown out of confusion and frustration. So I’m gonna need some clarity.”

Supervisor: “All it means is that they are going to be going off your stats. If you are in group one then you keep what ever shift you have. If you are in group 2 or three then there will be a shift bid.”

Me: “A shift bid? So what happens if you lose the bid?”

Supervisor: “I'm not sure exactly how they will work it but there should be multiple shifts that you would choose from. We are having a TLS meeting tomorrow and so I'm sure they will let us know more about it then. So once I find out more information on it I'll let you know.”

@actuallyautistic @youronlyone Both myself and my son get the reaction of “you don’t look #autistic” and then they complain about “#behavior problems”. Doesn’t matter if it’s #selfdx or #dx. I do my best to point out “you know this thing I/he does? Yeah, that’s autism.” I offer pointers to resources. The problem is that the #ignorant often are because they *choose* to be. My understanding is that #actuallyautistic began because “outsiders” were using #autism and #autistic and this new #hashtag was a way for us to self-identify. (Context: I feel compelled to post this because I've had to delete some replies to some posts I otherwise related to, and then block said accounts because I did not have the strength to revisit that specific topic - you are talking to a french-german autistic trans kid whom was also aware of their Jewish origin and spent their childhood and pre-teens years with that very specific special interest in mind - it was my 14th and the only one that never left me)

Today I feel fortunate to have a dr who listened to me..actually a couple of drs..beginning with my general dr who sent the referral to have an #autism #assessment done for me so quickly. I read so many..TOO MANY..personal stories about struggling to be #heard and #diagnosed . Or being misdiagnosed. I completely understand the need for #SelfDx . With or without the “official” diagnosis..I knew without a doubt this was me. I was never so certain about anything in my life.

Self Diagnosis is valid.

Often times, doctors will made a diagnostic judgement based on (1) their knowledge, (2) their experience, (3) their judgements and prejudices, and (4) criteria defined by their field.

You are the expert in your body and your experience. No doctor (except yourself, if you're a doctor) can really understand the depth of your experiences.

Medical criteria (when they exist) are often based on averages of a large group of patients.

@DarthBoring Before my autism-eureka #SelfDx, I never understood why people got annoyed/defensive at my pure-curious "but why?" questions, until I realised they felt I was criticising/challenging/demanding change. So thank you for making that observation.
