If you ask a person to answer the question for you, they’ll be giving you a fish. If you ask them detailed and thoughtful questions, you’ll learn how to fish.

First of the purple sprouting broccoli for this season. It's been 9 months since we last ate any PSB and it was delicious.

is quite outdated, climate-wise, and perhaps a bit naive. It consists of "blog" posts from the late 90s, mostly. But as it's largely about someone's thoughts while and taking a stab at , maybe some of those thoughts will be useful to others.

Of course, we do tend to get what we pay for. 😉

“How many of us lobby for green energy or protected lands, but don't engage with the local bounty to lay by for tomorrow's unseasonal reality? That we tend to not even think about this as a foundation for solutions in our food systems shows how quickly we want other people to solve these issues.”

"There are many more ways we can adapt. For example, instead of using up our energies harping about big farmers.......buy your own little patch of land to turn into an oasis of food and wildlife abundance. More and more people are doing this rather than standing around wringing their hands about global warming. Your little sanctuary will not be prone to disappear when the inevitable financial crises hit the big commercial farms."

"No matter where you are you can grow something to eat. Shift your thinking and you'd be surprised at the places your food can be grown! Window sill, fire escape and rooftop gardens have the same potential to provide impressive harvests as backyard gardens, greenhouses and community spaces."

Making butter is really easy ,you just get double cream add a bit of salt and use a whisk until it turns into butter and buttermilk ,it is ready when it starts to seperate into chunks of scambled egg coloured butter and a liquid thaty looks like watery milk, scoop the butter into a cloth and drain it squeeze and then store it somewhere. The liquid buttermilk ,you can use the buttermilk in soda bread which is also fast and easy.

"The tragic reality is that very few sustainable systems are designed or applied by those who hold power, and the reason for this is obvious and simple: to let people arrange their own food, energy and shelter is to lose economic and political control over them. We should cease to look to power structures, hierarchical systems, or governments to help us, and devise ways to help ourselves.”

“At this point in history, our society tends to elevate and reward the specialist...This concentrated focus has brought some benefits...It may also be a modern malady. Specialization, when taken too far and allowed to define who and what we are, becomes limiting. It robs us of our wholeness and our self-sufficiency. It misses the big picture and confines us to a narrow zoom. And it leaves us at the mercy of experts.”

~ Keith Stewart

I grow plants from my kitchen vegetable waste ,if you put the ends of carrots, swede, cabbage ,celery in water they will sprout ,you can eat the greenery instead of micro greens ,though I dont and plant them up ,they will flower ,carrots produce cow parsley type flowers ,Swedes and cabbage yellow flowers that are good cut flowers .I reuse plastic ,tins and cardboard for plant pots ,seed trays etc
