"Looking back it was blindingly obvious I was as a child. I also had a lot of what I now know to be issues. Difficulties with lights, sounds, fabrics, even food textures and tastes. I had no idea they were -related, and knowing now makes my life so much easier." independent.ie/irish-news/heal

from my morning walk, this shell was lovely to look at and to hold (the mix of smooth and rough was fidgety-pleasing). once i'd had my fill of it, i placed it on the rock, took the photo and left the shell for someone else to find (and perhaps fidget with too). chose this particular rock because i liked the colours in it and the assorted little patches of moss on it (no idea what kind of moss).

I am in hell

I am on a bus and there is something wrong with my t shirt.

It is like ants are crawling all over my body.

I don’t know what has happened to the t shirt it’s clean on and fairly new.

I itch.

I want to take it off but as a woman this is not an option!

This is the nightmare I will live all day.

It's more often that we see articles about artificial noses. In the past 20 years they've come a long way - eventually they will be a fixture in the wine industry...

We're going to switch things up at the museum on Jan. 29 for people who can be overwhelmed by input. We'll adjust the volume, lighting and special effects and make a quiet room available. No reservation required.

Please watch your families over the weekend. Things are going to light up but those with issues with regulation and issues will need a "quiet space"

Things to watch for:
or which is usually presenting as rapid and continuous movements.
in rote memory
including screaming or screeching

Touch, Smell, Hear, See, Taste. Which ones are turned up on high? Find out, start out loud then reduce volume.

~ Cold Enough for Snow by Jessica Au
Fitzcarraldo Editions Feb 2022

I’ve just finished this enchanting novel which I heard about on one of my favourite blogs, by @radzpandit earlier this year. This is a beautiful short book about a woman meeting her mother in Japan for a mini break and explores there relationship from the perspective of the daughter. Little is said about their lives at the beginning of the story and I enjoyed how things are slowly revealed.
The real strength of this is in the brilliantly observed interactions, the descriptions of the city around them and the inner reflections of the main character. For example, on their first evening walk: ‘plants grew on the steep walls of the canal , trailing downwards and the water gave a shaking, delicate impression of the world above.’
Like many mother-daughter relationships, these women have trouble being totally honest with each other, Later they visit a gallery and the daughter reflects: ‘Wasn’t it incredible, I wanted to say, that once there were people who were able to look at the world—leaves, trees, rivers, grass—and see its patterns, and, even more incredible, that they were able to find the essence of those patterns, and put them to cloth?’ She can’t quite do this and says what she thinks her mother wants to hear.
The daughter also reflects on her University days, focusing on a lecturer who has left a lasting impression. I always enjoy stories that address our connection with past events and our faltering or confused memories and this one does it brilliantly. The daughter dwells on growing up alongside her sister at several points, on the different paths their lives have taken and how their choices have affected the family dynamic.
This is less than 4 hours long and I found myself reading it slowly and rereading sections as I went as it captivated me so much!

I have so many weird sensory issues that people have picked on me for... • I can't stand my hair being messy. • I love long hair but freak out when it's in my face for whatever reason. • Loose threads on my clothing get wripped out the minute I find them because I cannot stand the feeling of a thread against my skin. Truly, these are just some of the things and some days it is just really intense. Like today.

Wish us luck. Currently waiting for our first haircut in a salon/barbershop. Hopefully they'll listen to our request for no clippers.
