I just came across a couple of suggestions for sensory sensitive people in regards to toothpaste/brushing. It was suggested to use kids toothpaste to be able to find something without mint flavour (something I HATE), and to use an SLS free toothpaste because SLS causes contact irritation in some people. Not sure if SLS is part of the issue for me or not. Anyway, I just ordered a bubblegum flavoured SLS free kids toothpaste. I’m hoping that will help.

Afternoon folks! The work has started in earnest today. Been lots of drilling and banging all morning since about 8:30 AM, but the bonus is the crew have amazing taste in music, and a pretty good sound system! When it gets noisy I retreat under my big noise cancelling headphones with my book. Feeling pretty tired today and managed to sleep through a chunk of the work being done, but I heard the carer come in and decided it was time to move. Got a meeting later, but no way I’m going even on Zoom as I’ll have to talk evening carer through the temporary kitchen setup we have, and I just won’t have any spoons after their done with the kitchen for the day.

Universe give me patience. Work has started on next door's new kitchen. It's our turn tomorrow and it could take up to 10 working days. For two chronically ill thirty-somethings who are sound sensitive to loud noises, power-tools etc, this will be very hard to cope with at best and absolute hell at worst. So if you pray, think good thoughts, or anything else please send whatever you have our way. We'll probably be sat in our livingRoom or back bedroom, earplugs in, noise cancelling headphones on, audiobooks going, communicating by text message. We're both dreading it.
As well as all that, our most regularly used items have been set up in the hallway, creating another load of stuff to learn the layout of. I'm glad we'll be able to make cups of tea etc But trying to tell our carers where to find everything will be a pain at the very least. Two weeks Of 7:30 AM starts will really take a toll because I sleep more than most people do. I have to feel like I can vaguely function. the whole thing just makes me want to stay in bed and hibernate

Came home just now in the dark and it was really uncomfortable, my eyes felt blinded by the street lights and by the car lights, I found I couldn’t cope with any light at all. Now got a bit of sensory overload. I am wondering why I find it so much harder to cope with light especially artificial light when it’s dark outside than when it’s light, daytime. It’s probably the colour contrast

That sound when a match ignites? It's the aural equivalent of a very brief, yet intensely satisfying head scratch. 🔥

I don't have a diagnosis to point to, but I definitely have sensory processing issues. music is distracting and usually annoying to me. sometimes I like listening to podcasts but generally I prefer quiet.

So this Spotify wrapped season, I am pleased to report that I am in the control group with, um, nothing.

It’s the shrill voices of chatting females that is really getting to me in this hell called ‘trampoline park’. It appears to be exactly at the frequency that makes me able to feel my ear membranes vibrate. *shudder*

How would one go about creating a cranberry orange bread tasting experience… without the finished product having whole cranberries? or: my partner liked how the cranberry orange bread I made tasted, but didn’t enjoy biting into little fruit bits, and I want to make something we can both enjoy

My partner is totally blind, and I have some usable vision. Both our animals know exactly how to best get each of our attention. They are very vocal and touch-oriented with my partner, but with me, they know that a combination of sound and visible position works best with me, since I have some issues around touch.
One time, the dog, when my partner came to Alaska to help me move down here, we visited the blindness training center where I used to work. Her dog is an unconventional size for a service dog, being all of 18 pounds, and he was hanging out on the floor of the daily living skills room, and when sighted people came in, not even the slightest sound. The minute a blind person came in with a cane, he started talkin', just enough to let her know not to step on him.
All that to say, yeah, animals know about blindness and such, whether we actively teach them or not.

This is a poem about my as an . It offers no explanations. No justifications. No enlightenment.

I simply call it, NOISE.
