To continue on the #Antarctica theme with a quite specific example, the #Shackleton ice shelf which includes the deep #DenmanGlacier trough appears to be experiencing acceleration + enhanced rifting based on 60(!) Years of observations, this is not good news for #SeaLevelRise

I'm nearing the end of two solid 5-star reads to open the year with. Maritime archaeologist Mensun Bound's account of the discovery of the wreck of Shackleton's ship Endurance. And Rob Wilkins' biography of his boss Terry Pratchett. Both absolutely brilliantly written and total page turners. Still reading my #Endurance book by Mensun Bound and just got to the bit where they absolutely and definitively found the #shipwreck under the #Antarctic ice. I’m now grinning from ear to ear, even if I already knew the outcome! This book is so gripping, and well written. Thrilling expedition of rediscovery and at the same time telling the story of the original Endurance expedition led by #Shackleton. I was lucky to nab a signed copy of the hardback after the author had given a talk in #Dundee.

This time last year, 5th January 2022, in #SouthGeorgia on the 100th anniversary of the death of Sir Ernest #Shackleton in Grytviken. We took a dram to his memory at the cross at Hope Point, erected by the crew of the Quest.

Absolute brilliant telly. Definitely recommend!

Tonight’s supper reading, Mensun Bound’s “The Ship Beneath the Ice: The Discovery of Shackleton’s Endurance”. I was lucky to get a signed copy from my local bookshop. I rarely read print now due to neuro disease, but this one’s layout and structure is me friendly.
