Ok so years ago, before i had even engaged with folk music i was big into music and i owned a Mr Scruff album - late in the run it has a sample of someone singing a sea shanty 'goodby to sally and good by to sue / and you listening now its goodbye to you'

Itself an anachronistic lytic no doubt

Still years later, when i learned shanties i put the lyric in as a kind of personal nod. 'goodbye to sally.... / and you on the shore well its goodby to you.....'

now EVEN MORE years later i have recovered my music collection and turns out it WAS actually the same shanty.

United through time and the fact that the namespace for sea-shanties which arent big problematic is quite small..

The shanty FYI is Away for Rio, which in fairness, is a standard.

While i have your attention, anyone have a youtube mix of Chinese / Japanese sea-shanties? i understand there was a parallell tradition but its not easy to find.
