If you have a better idea to make it work, I'm all ears! So far, there are three ways that enables the users to share stuff on Mastodon:

1. Install a browser extension, like Fedishare
2. Use a somewhat centralized share page, like #Share2Fedi
3. Copy URL and post it yourself

IMHO, option 2 is the easiest for the end consumer, even with the bad UX :/

That is somewhat correct. I do encourage others to make their own #Share2Fedi instances, yet I am still to add the support for changing the URL of an instance to #Shareon

@kevin @jwz well, yes and no :D #Shareon has a Mastodon share button (soon to be promoted to "Fediverse"), which is powered by #Share2Fedi.

I am working on #Share2Fedi (ex. ‘toot’) v3, which will add support for many other federated networks. GNU Social happens to be the first one I managed to implement :)

Back in the day, I have developed 'toot', which allows one to post text toots to any Mastodon instance. After putting in the text and the URL, one would be redirected to the share page of the instance (very useful for 'Share' buttons!)
