We picked up another inch or two of snow overnight at #ForkedMeadow #California

It went down to 14f overnight and is curently 18f.

The weather forecast for the Forked Meadow / #DinkeyCreek / #ShaverLake area now has a #BlizzardWarning for Monday through Wednesday and they're saying 3-7 feet of new snow in that time period will fall.

It's time to get out for more diesel for the snow blower and other supplies before the next storm rolls in.

This is just an absolute massive snow dump and boggles the mind. That little conifer that @sarae was watching is now very much under the snow. #ForkedMeadow #california and the #DinkeyCreek and #ShaverLake area are absolutely getting hammered. The high #Sierra must be completely burried. It will be interesting to see the snow survey results in a few days. #CaWx

Sounds like there's a real risk tonight of #Highway168 between #Cressmans and #ShaverLake sliding off the mountain tonight. That stretch of road is called #6Mile and it's the only way in or out for the whole region. It was partially burned over in the #CreekFire in 2020 with sections having zero living vegetation.

There are some rough gravel forest roads that can be used in the summer as alternatives but in the winter they're usually under snow and have a lot of downed trees.

Looks like #Highway168 from Prather up to #ShaverLake is closed due to a new landslide. Auberry Road is still closed from last week's storms and now it looks like boulders and flooding are closing #TollhouseRoad which means the mountain communities around Shaver Lake and #HuntingtonLake plus China Peak Ski Resort and #DinkeyCreek (and #ForkedMeadow ) are now cut off and isolated. Sounds like the highway 168 situation could be a pretty big slide.

Now one of the two alternate roads (Auberry Road) is closed because it's falling off the mountain so all traffic up and down the mountain to #ShaverLake #California has to go via the old Tollhouse Road.

I think the SJ&E Road up to Big Creek is closed for the winter so that means only Tollhouse Road has access. Pretty crazy.

There's a rock slide on highway 168 between #Prather and #ShaverLake #California that's causing a bit of a headache. There are two alternative smaller, slower roads (Tollhouse and Auberry) to get between the valley and the mountains. This rock slide was triggered by the #AtmosphericRiver that went through California a few days ago.

I wonder how long it'll take for #CalTrans to stabilize and remediate the slide so they can clear and reopen the road.

The old Pine Logging Camp is in a state of arrested decay near #DinkeyCreek #California but I doubt the teepee burner and buildings will remain standing much longer without more intervention. The #MuseumOfTheSierra did some restoration work back in 2002-2005 and it's only been abandoned since about 1980. But decay moves quickly in the #Sierra on man-made structures. #AbandonedAmerica #PineLoggingCamp #ShaverLake

Between #ShaverLake and #DinkeyCreek there was ice on the dead branches and brush this morning. I think that means there was freezing rain in that area yesterday or overnight. That's pretty rare for the #Sierra!

The #SCE Southern California Edison weather station in #ShaverLake #California is reporting almost 4.5" of precipitation over the last 24 hours. Usually #ForkedMeadow gets ~20% more than Shaver Lake. That would track with the sheet of water coming off the roof overnight for several hours. #WeatherObservations

How much do you think will come down as snow in the #ShaverLake area? My parents live ten miles south near #DinkeyCreek at 6000' elevation. NWS Hanford day shift and night shift, as always, seem to disagree on how much and at what elevation the precipitation will be snow.

But these storms can be pretty temperamental in the #Sierra so we could have no snow or many feet of snow. I am guessing #ShaverLake will get a foot, #DinkeyCreek will get two feet, and Forked Meadow will get 2.5 feet. Fingers crossed though for an epic dump of 5 or more feet! #WeatherObservations

I never get sick of #ForkedMeadow #California. Every day is new, different, and interesting. Hour by hour the vibe changes. What's here today won't be tomorrow. But at the same time there's a strong permanence to this place. Even though we're only ten miles from #ShaverLake and about two miles from #DinkeyCreek, it feels (and is) quite remote.
