Irish playwright Bernard Shaw disliked how the same letters can be pronounced in different ways in English, and desired a spelling reform where each letter only has one sound. A competition was held after his death, and the entry by Ronald Kingsley Read won.

Oh what difference a font makes. Apple’s default fallback font Apple Symbols (first image) is such a strain to read. And yet iOS is so locked down that using custom fonts is far from easy, and relies on app developers permitting it rather than a simple change in the OS settings.
