The #Arashiyama area of #Kyoto is always appreciated. #Japanese as well as foreign #tourists enjoy traditional #cosplay, the #Buddhist temples and #Shinto shrines set in abundant natural beauty, riding rickshaws through the renowned #bamboo #forest, and more.
Follow me if you like through the micro-seasons starting with plum blossoms.

Toward the Eastern Mountains (東山) of #Kyoto, I walked from the Kawaramachi train station by Gion to the #Shinto shrine Yasaka Jinja (八坂神社) -- first photo -- and the World Heritage temple #Kiyomizudera (#清水寺). A recommended tourist route, these are only a few of the scenes I'm so familiar with. A willow tree in Maruyama Park could really be weeping, because a 2018 typhoon, going farther north than in the past -- like U.S. hurricanes -- broke it, but it is growing back and looking like "The Matrix" movie theme in the second photo. There is a #Buddhist Yasaka Pagoda -- third photo -- and one of many perspectives that always reward a visit to Kiyomizu Temple -- last photo.

Back to the #Shinto #shrine Jonangu in #Kyoto (京都の城南宮). Limited to just four of my stunning #photos of #plum trees and #cultural features from its rich #history since the year 794 at the beginning of the #Heian Period. Unusual stone lantern, teahouse, and hanging plum #blossoms in white (most fragrant), pink and red.
As the sightseeing season is starting, follow me for my specialization: #Japan.

#Kyoto changing leaves: did you know that you needed to see this? :blobheart: This is not even the peak for delicate red #maple leaves, so check back later, but this is a little-known early stage with yellow ginkgo and various tawny colors. You might like the vermillion #Shinto #shrines and #Buddhist #temples, too, that blend so well with #nature. #introduction: We've been living near Kyoto for 18 years while I've been a professor in #Osaka. I originally specialized in #Japan, so I'm fluent and literate in #Japanese. I sometimes guide people to Kyoto and pay my own way. But my Japanese wife of 34 years warns that I don't know the restaurants, being just a hiker. We have two sons incredibly successful in Tokyo: one is just coming back from Seattle, NYC, and #Boston (my home town). With the limit of four photos here, you might want to see frequent loads of gorgeous #photos on #Facebook, where I'm @waoesteve
