Today in 1959, the St. Lawrence Seaway opened to traffic. Construction began in 1954, and cost $470 million, or $5.1 billion today. Canada paid for most of it.
The Seaway allows ships from the Atlantic Ocean to reach ports in all five Great Lakes.

Today in 1921, the Bluenose was launched. In a racing career that lasted until 1937, the Bluenose never lost a competition and became an icon of Canada & Western Canada. It is commemorated on our dime.
It eventually became a working ship & was wrecked in 1946 near Haiti.

My arrived today. They took two days shy of four weeks to travel from Lincolnshire, UK to West Virginia, US. I ordered them back in January but they didn't ship until mid-February because of the cyber-attack on Royal Mail. And now they're in my hands.

I got two miniatures and a "hurty-gurty man" miniature that I might paint as a . I'm eager to get a redcap based, primed, and underway.

I have no idea how long it takes to ship to West Virginia, US from Lincolnshire, UK. I know I should expect delays. I've only done overseas shipping once before this.

I placed a order in mid-January that was delayed due to the Royal Mail cyberattack, but notified me that they shipped on 15 February.

There is no tracking number provided so today I sent an email asking if they have any estimate of the shipping time.

Today in 1824, the Welland Canal Company is formed with a capitalization of $150,000. This begins the process to construct the Welland Canal, which will allow ships to travel between Lake Ontario & Lake Erie. It now forms part of the St. Lawrence Seaway.

Today in 1914, the HMCS Karluk, the flagship of the Canadian Arctic Expedition Fleet, was crushed in the ice after being trapped for months.
Of the 25 who were on-board, 11 died in the attempt to march over the ice.
