An intro for anyone new here:
Hi!
I'm a journalist, author and editor.
My book Made Possible is influenced by my sister Raana (pictured!): an anthology on success, by people with learning disabilities: SUCCESS!
I chair Sibs, the charity for people who've grown up with disabled brothers/sisters. I’m an ambassador for the non-profit National Development Team for Inclusion.

For Carers Week, this is an important reminder for young siblings:
'You do a great job and not just this week, which is a chance to celebrate from June 6th-12th 2023, but all year round'

Proud to be part of Sibs, the UK charity for the bothers and sisters of disabled people. This is on Monday - and the theme is 'sibling strengths':
'At Sibs, we know what a valuable role siblings play in the lives of their disabled brothers and sisters, how unique their relationship can be and how they need to be recognised and celebrated in their own right too.'

Hello 2023.
The traditional focus on the new at this time of year isn't always ideal.
Continuity, familiarity and routine - at a gentle pace - are as valuable.
My family got back to a familiar festive routine after Covid/lockdowns forced a break..a gentle stroll along the seafront.
Here's a collaborative selfie by my sister Raana (I held the camera, she pressed the button).
Hope 2023 is kind and treats everyone well.

This final toot in my thread's public as I think it's important and a wider point about public interest journalism:
I couldn't write the kind of pieces in this thread without compassionate, supportive editors and - crucially - people sharing their time and stories, not easy when you're going through hell. That includes people/families who shape my reporting, but aren't always quoted.
End of thread!

This, on carers' rights, looked at the support gaps for family members - an under-reported issue. Siblings’ needs in particular are going unmet, a typically shortsighted approach from government.

I'm sharing some of my 2022 stories here...not to recreate the usual end of year round up on Twitter (I appreciate things are - happily - different here) but because they show what I cover and may help me connect with people who have the same interests.
Hope I've done it right - the first toot's public and the rest unlisted.
My first piece in 2022 was about why I chose to keep my mask on.

Looking forward to seeing my sister Raana over Christmas. But while festivities can be fun, they can also be complex. Holidays are tricky for many people, families and carers, even before adding Covid or the cost of living crisis into the mix.
This from the charity Sibs is vital (full disclosure: I'm a trustee and chair the charity):
