#The_Guardian reports Sir Alexander's predictions of coming war (May 2016, prior to #Brexit vote which emboldened #Putin against #EU & NATO).

Given that #UK military intelligence must have known the general's predictions, how come they were surprised by #Putin attacking #Ukraine in 2022? If not surprised, why did they not warn #Johnson?

Or did they warn him & did he ignore them because #Partygate mattered more to him?

I started reading recent history to trace the steps leading to #Putin invading #Ukraine - plenty of warnings in last 10+ years from e.g. PM of #Finland #Gorbachev and many academic commentators. But politicians never listened.

Sir Alexander Shirreff predicted war with Russia but was mocked. He was wrong on details but right on the basic trend of history. NATO member states' political leaders should have listened.
