How should #fedi users be encouraged to only share openly accessible URLs?
(e.g. URLs not leading to access resitricted venues like #Facebook, #Cloudlfare, #Siteground, #Quora, paywalls, etc)
(check all that apply)

@noellemitchell good plan!
Note you don't really get a #Wordpress.org account as such - you sign up with a host like #Siteground or #BlueHost, and install Wordpress(.org) open source version through them. Or self-host which is another can of worms!
Having made a lot of sites through hosts, I'm considering moving one large site to Wordpress.com to take advantage of their additional features, security, and #hosting speed.

Anyone on here able to help me? I'm trying to get away from #siteground and #weebly back to #wordpress. I started two blogs many moons ago and have a website www.knowyogaireland.com. None of this is easy for a non-techie. I want to install wordpress.org.

I'm currently on the horn with #NameCheap asking if they have plans to support one-click #Mastodon installs and/or managed hosting. I'm looking to switch from #SiteGround basically to save some $$, I don't need SG's power. But I would love if I could just add a Masto instance onto other web hosting I'm already paying for.
Anyone know of other general web hosts that support one-click WordPress and Mastodon?

Asked my web host #SiteGround if they could offer one-click setups of Mastodon and PixelFed. Sadly no plans to speak of yet, but hopefully I haven't been the only one and that helps to plant the seed.
Thinking about moving a few low traffic #WordPress sites from #SiteGround to #Namecheap. Do y'all have thoughts on them, or another option for my needs?
- Looking to save $$ (Siteground = $300/year!)
- At least somewhat 'managed' WordPress hosting. I can usually fix things when they bork, but I'd like to have a Smart Person I can turn to
- Easy WordPress migration. I do manual db stuff rarely enough that I have to relearn it every time, and I'd rather not spend that effort this time around

My web host is #SiteGround, and I saw this announcement of a small way we can support #Ukraine by redirecting visitors from Russia to a page about their illegal invasion. Clever feature, I turned it on.
Oddly, my VPN (Private Internet Access) doesn't offer Russia as an option.
Anyone 'round here from Russia, or have a VPN with it as an option? Can you try:
And let me know what you see?
@LibreSolutionsNetwork@leafposter.club @dusnm Not sure what "#freeprivatecities" is but they’re a tor-hostile #Siteground asset layered under #Cloudflare. This is not how an authors who put people above corporporations practice what they preach.

@stux @batalanto It’s gotten worse now. #WireApp recently switched their whole website over to #SiteGround, a service that mistreats Tor users.
@strypey @fdroidorg @ademalsasa @snikket_im I must replace #Wire. Thanks for the tips. Wire has the serious defects of not sending all msgs to all your devices, & also #Debian #Bullseye incompatibility. Then today I discovered that wire.com has become a Tor-hostile #siteground site that treats ppl like malicious bots. That's obnoxious, so fuck #Wire.

#Siteground redirects #Tor users to a ".well-known/captcha" link using "meta http-equiv" in the body instead of a normal 301/302 server redirect & instead of giving a 403 status, it gives a 200. E.g., run this:
curl --ssl --socks4a 127.0.0.1:9050 -L -w $'\n''(effective URL => "%{url_effective}")' 'https://www.samsonbanking.com/'
It seems they are trying to conceal their detection of bots from bots. But it's just another thing for the bot to check.
Is this an example of #securityByObscurity?
