The view towards the island of Seil, south-west of Oban in Argyll, from the summit of the remarkable slate island of Easdale, one of the most unique places in Scotland. It has no cars (only wheelbarrows), no roads and no street lamps. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/eas

Tidelines.

The beach is mostly composed of slate debris; but the white lines are empty limpet shells, bleached by sea and sun.

Backlit by the afterglow of the already set sun, the bulk of Dùn Mòr looms over the small settlement of Ellenabeich. Venus, at the left of the image is also reflected in a flooded, long abandoned, slate quarry.

Sunrise on Seil.

The air temperature is just on 0⁰c; as the tide dropped, a thin veil of freshwater ice was draped over the slatey shore of the lagoon.

A VIRTUAL TOUR OF SCOTLAND

We travel north by boat again, this time less than three miles to the island of Easdale, and island literally shaped by long-ceased slate mining. This is one of the most unique places in Scotland with no cars, no roads and no street lamps: only wheelbarrows for carrying belongings around. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/eas

A VIRTUAL TOUR OF SCOTLAND

We travel north by boat past the island of Scarba to the village of Cullipool on the island of Luing's north-west coast. The village owes its existence and growth to the quarrying of the slate on which large parts of the Slate Islands are built: though quarrying here ceased in 1965. "That's noon!" The sun at its zenith today; it's over Cuan Sound, between the islands of Seil and Luing.

Had to go out to work at short notice this afternoon, so Sandy the deaf BC had a second good walk this morning. I took the opportunity to look out again from the top of Dùn Diomhanaís across the village of Ellenabeich to Easdale Island while the weather was calm.

The village of Cullipool, the largest settlement on the island of Luing, one of the Slate Islands off the coast of Argyll south of Oban. It owes its existence to the quarrying of slate. The Isle of Mull can be seen in the distance. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/lui
