#Portland Bureau of #Transportation (#PBOT) wants to know if people think they're doing a good job. LMAO. #YellowCenterlines leading to a #NeighborhoodGreenway #SlowStreets signs and barrel cowering over by the side, cutting-through drivers ignore the yellow lines anyway, surface quality is crap and getting worse with every mile driven by car. They should just cut the entire yellow paint budget, I don't care how much they already bought, use it on curbs or something.

Props to #outsideLands for putting these up along Slow Cabrillo. (There should also be local access only signs every day since it’s a Slow Street) #SlowStreets #Cabrislow

Rear camera shows he *did* start to signal before passing me, like how does that thought process work? "I can make it"? I might not have actually had a chance of getting my front wheel under his vehicle and thrown under the passing car but it sure felt like I had to brake.
This orange barrel was supposed to be in the middle, with the #SlowStreets stuff.
Us: Calmly crossing the street, collectively, for two minutes, to protest the broken infrastructure that allowed a woman to be killed crossing the street.

@bhawthorne @benhaube @mekkaokereke @ZuriBella In SF a vocal minority of drivers pushed to undo the early pandemic car-free spaces. Car-brained politicians have consistently caved to them even though overall car traffic is still well below pre-pandemic levels. We've had to fight for almost every single car-free or car-light street. We won some spaces permanently (#JFKPromenade), some have partially survived (#GreatWalkway), and some went back to the status quo (certain #SlowStreets)

@sf_ish I don't have a specific answer for 23rd Ave and Cabrillo, but this kind of situation is common. Slow Clay and Slow Pacific (RIP) also didn't quite meet up. And now Slow 20th St misses Slow Shotwell by a block since the first signage eastbound is at Folsom.
Beyond #SlowStreets, a lot of bike lanes don't quite meet up with other bike lanes. I made a map of the gaps I know: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?hl=en&hl=en&mid=1y1_yhFrkzGdmo8Fmi84jP49rcmvDh13e&ll=37.77130407988236%2C-122.44714542826276&z=14 #bikeSF

No SFMTA board members have accepted my invitation to bike/walk/roll around Glen Park and talk about why we need #SlowChenery, but Streetsblog did publish my email to them as an open letter. #SlowStreets #BikeSF

Oh this is sneaky: #SlowStreets report says speeds on 23rd Ave, Minnesota, Sanchez, and Shotwell are fine and no speed management is needed, but they're basing that on *median* speed being (barely) below 15 mph.
The 75th %ile speeds on these streets are ~19, ~22, ~17, ~18mph.
NACTO recommends designing based on 95th %ile speed. None of the Slow Streets appear to meet NACTO guidelines for a "Bicycle Boulevard," let alone a "Shared Street." https://nacto.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/NACTO_Designing-for-All-Ages-Abilities.pdf#page=4 #BikeSF
New report says all but four #SlowStreets are meeting volume goals of <1,000 vehicles/day. The four exceptions: Minnesota, 20th St, Page, and Noe. That's surprising since counters purchased by Lake residents show it well over that threshold. Those 4 "will require volume management tools."
12 of 16 Slow Streets are failing the <15mph speed target and "need traffic calming." https://www.sfmta.com/reports/2023-slow-streets-evaluation-report
I have some questions about this Slow Streets evaluation report from SFMTA, but this sure is great to see. https://www.sfmta.com/sites/default/files/reports-and-documents/2023/05/2023_slow_streets_evaluation_report_20230502.pdf

This is what #SlowStreets could be if we didn't have a car for a mayor. #BikeSF https://www.politico.eu/article/barcelona-green-spaces-mental-health-superblocks-eixos-verds/
In SF our MTA board of directors asked staff to do this — create a citywide network of quieter streets good for bike or on foot, i.e., #SlowStreets — but staff was like, “nah.” And is also downgrading the ones we have. @BrentToderian https://mastodon.online/@BrentToderian/110229078372378837
It occurred to me today that what it might take to stop the deliberate worsening of #SlowStreets in SF (removal of "local traffic only" signs, removal/repositioning of posts encouraging speeding on Lake, etc) is a death on one. The City demands blood sacrifices to proceed.
Hope I'm wrong and we can organize to restore, improve and expand slow streets without that.

Randwick Council (Sydney) is seeking feedback on creating new cycling and walking connections along Anzac Parade, along with new public spaces.
The council is looking for ideas on improving walking and cycling along the corridor and creating new, inviting open spaces for recreational use!

In NSW Transport for NSW own research shows 30kmh saves lives.
> There is a 10 per cent risk that a pedestrian will be killed if hit by a modern car at 30km/h. At a 50km/h impact speed, the risk increases to 80 per cent.
