My largest social media platform peaked at just shy of 6K followers, over half of whom were under the age of 30, and I genuinely suspect that this is a big part of the reason for that. People at the intersection of "near my age" and "online" tend to be the types who get approved for bank loans, while I can't even get approved for credit cards, so we don't have much if anything in common.

Have the BBC tried asking people from poorer backgrounds and the working classes what they want? Employing more of them? Caring more about people and issues beyond the South of England?
