Got a bit of time reading, knitting and drinking tea on the deck when the sun warmed everything up this afternoon. π

I've always wondered if I'd be able to feel woven patches on my socks, and the answer is "Yes but only for a few minutes until the fibers flatten." I got two outright holes closed up and put these back into use today! Of course now that I'm looking at the photo I'm thinking maybe there's a thin spot that needs duplicate stitch too...
These were a #SocksOnVacay pair. Colour is a talk like a pirate day themed one from knittedwit . Can't remember the pattern but it's one with triangles from shannonsq .

A little bit of sock surgery!
Missed 4 rows in the toe and only noticed when I checked against the 1st sock to see if it was heel turn time! It's only about 1cm so it probably would have been ok but I wanted to practice taking a sock apart so I did!
The toe was already a separate yarn so I didn't have to cut it. I found the end inside, unpicked it carefully to take the toe off, noted how long of a tail I generated, added new yarn, knit the missing rows, then kitchener grafted it back together. Kind of fun!
Mom socks progress! I love that these are #DataVisualization for bird behaviour: those bumpy lines show when you can find the bird (in Victoria, Canada) and the colours show which bird.

Hatch is contemplating licking my Knitted Wit prize pack from this summer's Socks On Vacay / craft the parks knit-a-long. This is especially appropriate since I won a prize for having delicious socks that he Would Not Stop Licking.
(Yes, he did in fact lick the yarn pictured in this photo, though he was polite enough not to do it while I was taking the photo.)

Happy Halloween! ππ¦
I wrote up some instructions on how to make my Steven the Bat socks on the blog:
https://curiousity.ca/2022/steven-the-bat-socks/
It's not super beginner friendly but if you've knit a few socks it should be pretty doable!

Mom socks + poison bottle marker from the kittywithacupcake #Halloween countdown box. This one is my favourite right now!
The pattern matches colours with visiting patterns from the Victoria bird checklist. The purl bump line here indicates that they see more Steller's Jays in the fall. I feel like we see them year round near my house. Good habitat, I think?

And they're separate! These socks were knit alternating stitches between two socks so it's a bit amazing to finally be able to pull them apart.
Coin and snacks for scale.
Note that the coin is a New Zealand 50 cent because that's what I could find. I think it's a teensy bit bigger than a Canadian quarter but since I don't have one of those handy I may be incorrect.
Update on my tiny technique experiment socks: they're nearly ready to be separated!
Trying a new technique: knitting two socks at a time, one inside the other. I was only willing to commit to tiny socks, though.
Supposedly this was popular in wartime, but it takes enough cognitive overhead that I'm starting to wonder if it was just a way to show off your skills rather than an especially practical thing to do. Fun to try, though!
Diamond Tread Socks complete! These colours go well with the serious start to berry season here. ππ«π
