3 RULES FOR LIFE

In Plato's account of the famous Greek philosopher's life, Socrates is said to have a daimonion (which means a "divine being") that frequently warned him—in the form of a "voice"—against mistakes but never told him what to do.

Some scholars have interpreted this as a precursor to what would we would call a conscience.

However, given the presence of 'daemones' - tutelary deities - elsewhere in the Greek and Hellenistic literature, most people now see this as an example of someone with clairaudient abilities, which possibly allowed Socrates to hear his 'spirit guide'.

Clairaudience and intuition are both highlighted by Hexagram 57 which presides over today's .

Located in the splenic centre of the Human Design bodygraph, it is said to give people access to an instantaneous form of knowing similar to an animal's survival instincts.

How does your intuition guide you?

The famous saying by Socrates (below) marks the starting point for this week's newsletter from Deepak Chopra.

Entitled 'Knowing Nothing and Knowing Everything Are Exactly the Same,' it explores the limits of intellectual knowledge (cause-effect) vs the infinite possibilities of nondual, mystical forms of gnosis.

Well worth a read.

Here's a quick quote:
"Take any brain cell, and you can reduce it to organic molecules, which are composed of basic atoms like oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon. These lead back to subatomic particles, which in turn have a shadowy existence as ripples in the quantum field.

Assuming that you could analyze these ripples beyond the simplest elementary particles (which you can’t), the activity at the quantum level has zero link to what matters most about being human: self-awareness, love, compassion, creativity, truth, beauty, insight, and spirituality."

According to Socrates, true wisdom is knowing what you do not know. So an essential part of knowing yourself must be recognizing the limits of your own wisdom and understanding—knowing what you do genuinely know and knowing what you have yet to learn. In the Phaedo dialogue, Socrates argues for the immortality of the soul. So knowing oneself for Socrates also entails knowing your true nature as an immortal soul.

This is an interesting and different approach to as a and process connecting cross-culturally to daoism/Taoism. Not just as intellectual but as an embodied exploration process.

A little bit about my (which was missing from my post):

I look at what I take to be methodological continuities between (as he is depicted in the Theaetetus) and the later . Specifically, I build a set of criteria from features of Socrates’ ‘analogy of the midwife’ for determining what maieutic looks like, and I argue that Wittgenstein can be understood as being a ‘maieutic’ philosopher as his later method fulfills these criteria.
