I've been on a trip down the memory lane with the early versions of #Softimage #XSI and how cool I thought the whole package was when I used to aspire to be a CGI artist one day. One thing I noticed in later releases is the 3D cube gizmo that was added after the Autodesk acquisition. If I were to guess this was a request from the top level execs and was meant to show that XSI became a part of the Autodesk family, even though it's completely out of the fashion with the rest of the UI. "The inbound Stream of Dreams"
The third one in the series, the same sculpture again, but this time a happy accident happened in Softimage XSIs UV Editor... 🙂
Love it, although a friend said it gives him eye-cancer... 😂
I have it hanging on my office wall in 1m square for a decade...

Another incarnation of the sculpture I posted yesterday.
This time rendered with a special C++ camera shader I developed for Mental Ray in Softimage XSI many years ago.
It allows to displace the camera rays with for instance a fractal noise like in this case.
For all my (3D) life I loved NPR rendering styles and this is one of the best results I got.
Love it! 🙂

Speaking of massive nostalgia, this video on #Softimage really did it for me earlier this week. Holy smokes. I remember when everybody in my peer group wanted it so bad. When friends got jobs involving it though, it was instantly boring. So I have nostalgia for the anticipation of Softimage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9zpXD1RNmg
