I have tremendous respect for the fact that Japanese Natural Farming schools are zero tuition (and there's like 40 of them). it's very disappointing to me how figureheads like Elaine Ingham and Matt Powers run these piramidey schemes of inaccessible courses and certification levels, reproducing the scam of American education, like it directly contradictions your message, if you think the knowledge of biology-friendly food production is the revolution that will save the world, shouldn't you be spreading it everywhere to the four winds like dandelion seeds? dunno if you noticed but it's kind of a mass extinction event outside??

like once you maim your movement with the smell of profit you let the logic of productivism seep into everything. it is heartbreaking to see folks from India super enthusiastic on videos about the results they're getting, while at the same time apologetic about being unable to afford the three thousand fucking dollars the online course costs.

it wouldn't bother me if I thought it was all a scam but the worst part is that it's legit, all peer-reviewed stuff verified in the lab and in real farms and that I can verify with my own girly eyes in my own garden. one day I'm going to gather funds and ace all these courses and liberate all the knowledge in free easy-to-digest anarchist zines so we can print a bunch and spread them around for the apocalypse. come on plant queers, hoist the black with me towards the glorious future 🌱🏴‍☠️

@Rhyothemis I haven't bought inoculants much as I don't always have a budget for everything I'd like to have. There are recipes for brewing one's own inoculant. I mostly focus on growing soils that will have what the plants, annual and perennial need. I have brewed weed, seaweed, molasses, mineral, & compost foliar tea ferments, also used as root drench. Compost tea, especially if it's fungal. Go dig up a couple gallons of forest duff & add directly to planting holes and make tea or ferment to use after planting. The aim is to weave connections between the plant & its soil allies, fungal dominant for perennials, & bacterially dominant for annuals, generally speaking. Study & & investigate ferments.

One exciting thing about this project is its multi-faceted focus on community

Below ground, we're looking at the and effectiveness of adding either commercially available fungi or on-farm cultivated "Indigenous Micro-Organisms" (IMOs) to tree potting mixes and transplant field sites

Above ground, looking at the impact those organisms have on plant health and productivity, as well as the farmer knowledge networks needed to grow & sustain based livelihoods

Favorite source:

The Permaculture Podcast with Scott Mann is one of my sanity-savers, an oasis of intelligent, useful, in-depth interviews and discussions about techniques that could revolutionize our food supply and our communities. Permaculture is our best weapon against the accelerating horrors of climate change.

Scott Mann has a lovely, soothing, NPR-sounding radio voice, calmly breaking down complex ideas and terrifying problems, from the philosophical to the practical, with great patience, earnesty, and compassion.

You won't hear about these solutions in the corporate news theater.

Just finished . More evidence on fungal:bacteria ratio preferences of plants would be needed.
Will produce extract and tea next season and generally move towards better aeration of compost and substrate. Still need to work out what it all means for mixing annual veg and perennial fruits though and whether I could simplify veg rotations through interplanting.
